Lee K. Bailey Obituary From The Palm Beach Post Published on Jan 14, 1994, page 4B Lee K. Bailey, 66 years old, of Delray Beach, FLorida, died January 12, 1994 at Bethesda Hospital in Boynton Beach, Florida following an extended illness. Lee was born to Dorothy Leah Baker Bailey and Joseph K. Bailey in Walker, Iowa on December 3, 1927. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he was a member of the 1945 high school baseball state championship team. After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa for two years before transferring to Florida State University, Tallahassee, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He played semi-pro baseball before starting his business career with Vulcan Materials Corporation. During his thirty-five years with Vulcan Materials, he became President of their Chemical Division before being promoted to Executive Vice President of Vulcan Materials in Birmingham, Alabama where he retired in 1987. Lee was a resident of Delray Beach, Florida for the past seven years, and was a member of the Pine Tree Golf Club, the Delray Beach Club, the Waukegan Yacht Club, and the Gulf Stream Yacht Club in Delray Beach. He was a member of the Florida State University Alumni Association. Lee said about retirement, "I don't know now how I ever found time to work." He is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Joe.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Lee Bailey; his sons, Randall and Skiff
Bailey and Kory Nauta; his brothers, Al and Jim Bailey; his aunt, Marjorie
Williams; and his mother-in-law, Elvira West. |
