Obituary for William P. "Bill" Sawyer, Jr. Published in the Hughes & Wright Funeral Home He was a standout football player who lettered all four years as a Florida State Seminole. His football career continued in the semi-pro leagues, as a center for the Shreveport Steamers and the Kansas City Chiefs. As an avid supporter of high school athletics, he spent countless hours working to benefit the Crisp County Touchdown Club. He was a member of Cordele First Baptist Church, the Cordele Lions Club, the Seminole Letterman?s Club. Being a mentor for the Big Brother-Big Sister Program was one of his most rewarding and fulfilling accomplishments. He is survived by his wife of thirty-one years, Fran Carter Sawyer of Cordele; his children Brian Sawyer (Katie) of Ocala, Florida, and Rebecca Sawyer of Cordele; his mother, Idalene Williams Sawyer of Cordele; his sister, Cindy Hughes (Jimmy) of Monticello; mother-in-law Amelia Carter; brother-in laws Millard (Merrily), Hal (Karen), Fred (Kim), Tom (Charissa) and Tim (Jessica) Carter, and many nieces and nephews.

William Pitts "Bill" Sawyer, Jr. of Cordele died Monday, October 12, 2009
after a lengthy illness. He was born in Montezuma, Georgia, on December 4,
1955. He was preceded in death by his father, Williams Pitts Sawyer, Sr. of
Cordele. Mr. Sawyer began his career in medical sales; most recently
serving as a healthcare manager. During his career, he achieved numerous
national awards and implemented the first pain management program, in
Georgia and helped start Minimed, a diabetic company.
