Obituary for Peter M. Findley
Published in The Burlington Free Press on Nov. 7, 2017

Peter M. Findley, 90, of Essex Vermont, passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 31, 2017 at the Burlington Health and Rehab Center.

Peter was born on August 23, 1927, in Brighton, England, to Chase and Bessie Findley. Upon moving to Florida as a young teen, Peter graduated from Orlando High School in 1945 and then left to serve his country. Peter spent time aboard a Navy ship in the pacific at the end of World War II before enrolling and graduating from Florida State University with a degree in Political Science.

While living in Orlando working at the Arthur Murray Studio, he met and fell in love with fellow Dance Instructor Janet Loomis. Shortly after, they were married and moved to Tampa where Peter began a long and fulfilling career as an agent with the Prudential Insurance Company. During his career he took great pride in continuing his education and was the first one in his district to receive the CLU Designation. Peter was also the first in his district office to reach a million dollars in sales for a year and advanced to become a local Sales Manager and eventually, an Executive in the Company's Home Office.

With his young family his career moved him to first Connecticut, then Massachusetts, and finally New Jersey. He retired to the beautiful state of Vermont in 1991. In his retirement years Peter remained committed to helping others, volunteering his help to the elderly with tax preparation, along with serving in S.C.O.R.E. (Service Core of Retired Executives).

Peter was blessed to spend many wonderful, quality years with his loving wife Janet. They shared 64 years together …a lifetime of treasured memories. He enjoyed the pleasure of traveling, dancing and spending precious moments with great friends, family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A man of remarkable strength and dignity, always kind, loving and generous; he will be sorely missed.

Along with his wife Janet, Peter is survived by his son Michael and wife Mary of Wells, Maine, his daughter Debbie Pinsky and her husband Dave of Southampton, Mass, his son Jeffrey Findley of Wilmington, DE and nine grandchildren: Michael Jr., Mollie Skuse and husband Sean, Brian, Amanda, Jonathan and wife Amber, Nicholas, William, Hannah and Ethan; two great-grandchildren: Nathaniel and Robert. He was predeceased by his parents along with 6 brothers and 2 sisters, and several nieces and nephews.
