NCAA Champion in the High Bar...2nd in the High Bar in 1957...also two 6th
place and four 7th place finishes...team finished 3rd in 1957, Amster had
21 out of 63.5 points...team finished 3rd in 1956, Amster had 25 out of
64.5 points...Amster is deceased. Obituary for Ronald L. Amster From the Tallahassee Democrat, published on Dec 21, 1965, page 2. Ronald Amster, a 1956 graduate of Florida State University and an outstanding member of the gymnastic team, died Dec. 10 in Anaheim, Calif., after a long illness. Amster was a co-captain of the 1955-56 team and was NCAA champion on the horizontal bars. In addition, he was a member of the 1954-55 National Championship team at FSU. In recent years, Amster, a native of Chicago,
Ill., was gymnastics instructor in a high school at Anaheim. Several of his
former students are nationally ranked gymnasts. He is survived by his wife
and five children. |
