Obituary for Terry A. Maxhimer Published in The Repository on January 22, 2014 Terry A. Maxhimer age 64, our beloved son, brother and uncle, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, after a courageous battle with the effects of a stroke suffered in 2007. 'He fought the good fight.' Born Oct. 1, 1949, in Massillon, a son to Helen M. (Neal) and the late Harold L. Maxhimer, 'Max' was a proud graduate of Washington High School with the Class of 1967, where he was a standout diver with the Tiger Sharks and is an inductee in the Tiger Shark Hall of Fame. Also a graduate of Florida State University where he continued his diving and coaching career, he also coached briefly at Florida A&M University. Besides having been a former AAU state champion, USA Masters National Champion and professional high diver, Terry was a two-time Masters World Champion in both the 1 and 3 meter springboard divisions. His greatest attribute however, was not his titles or awards but the person he was. He always thought of others before himself. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his mother, Terry is survived by his siblings, Sherry Patrick, of Englewood, Calif., Richard Maxhimer, Jan (Doug) Miller and Russell (Wilma) Maxhimer, all of Massillon; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he dearly loved. |
