Mike Augustine came south to Florida State in the fall of 1960 from his home in Philadelphia, Pa. He would bide his time waiting for playing time within the Seminoles' highly successful baseball program finally getting his chance at tournament time during his sophomore season - and he would never look back. Augustine bat first, hitting .353 (6 for 17), and played right field in the 1962 College World Series, leaded Florida State to a fourth place finish.

The lightning fast lefthander switched to center fielder as a junior in 1963 and he exploded on the college baseball scene. He led the Seminoles in hitting, his batting average over .400 for most of the year, before ending the season at a .399 clip, the third best average in FSU history at the time. His 65 hits set a new school record, and his eight strikeouts in 163 at bats made him one of the toughest-to-strikeout in the nation. Augustine helped lead the Seminoles to a second trip in a row to the College World Series and a fifth place finish. For his efforts, he was named a First-Team All-American from the American Baseball Coaches Association.

As a senior in 1964, Augustine's 40 hits were second on the team and he once again showed an astonishing eye at the plate striking out just five times in 35 games.

Mike Augustine used his quickness and exceptional hitting to add his name as one of the best baseball players in Florida State history.
