Doug Mientkiewicz had an outstanding career in athletics at his high school Westminster Christian. An All-State football and baseball player who was also named All-City in basketball, he helped lead
his prep team to a National Championship his senior year. Though he was a 12th round draft pick out of high school, Doug elected to sign with Florida State and leave his hometown of Miami to become a
Seminole. Mientkiewicz had three very successful seasons at Florida State and led the team in batting each year. In Doug's final season at FSU, he was named the MVP of the Atlantic I Regional after his three homers helped lead the 'Noles to their 14th trip to the College World Series. He led the Seminoles with a .371 batting average, 19 home runs and 80 RBIs for the year. In 1994, he was a member of Team USA where he led the team of all-stars with 10 home runs and 41 RBI's and was awarded the Fighting Spirit Award by the All-Japan University Baseball League. He ranks 10th in the Florida State record book for batting average and slugging percentage and was named to the CWS All-Decade Team of the 1990s. In 1995, the left-handed first baseman signed with the Minnesota Twins. He made his major league debut in 1998. But one of Doug's brightest moments came when he was selected to play for the USA in the Sydney Olympics and eventually brought home a gold medal. His major league accomplishments include a gold glove in 2001 and a World Championship ring in 2004 as a member of the Boston Red Sox.
