Hugh Durham led the Seminole basketball teams of the late 1950s and later coached FSU to the national title game in 1972. As a player from 1956-1959, Durham scored 1,281 points and averaged 18.9 a
game. Twenty-five years later, he was still on the school's top ten lists for scoring average, total points and free throw percentage. His 43 points against Stetson still ranked second in school
history in the year 2000. In his senior year, Durham was named honorable mention All-American. After a term as Bud kennedy's assistant at FSU, Durham became head coach in 1966 and posted a record of
230-95 from 1966-78. He led three teams to the NCAA Tournament including the 1971-72 squad that advanced to the national title game against John Wooden and the UCLA Bruins.
