Doug Edwards became the first player in FSU history to score 500 points in three consecutive seasons from 1991-93. He also still ranks sixth in career rebounding, grabbing 788 (8.5 per game) career
boards. He recorded 18 double-doubles over his three seasons, which ranks tied for seventh all-time and only six players at FSU started more than the 93 games he did. The consummate team player that played with ease and grace that belied his determination to win, Edwards played on FSU teams that finished 21-11 in 1991, 22-10 in 1992 and 25-10 in 1993. FSU beat Louisville to win the Metro Tournament in dramatic fashion his sophomore year, which was FSU's last in the league. Over his last two years, FSU set basketball rich Tobacco Road on its ear finishing second in the ACC. The Seminole starting lineup of Edwards, Charlie Ward, Sam Cassell, Bob Sura and Rodney Dobard featured four NBA first round draft picks. The Seminoles participated in the NCAA tournament all three years making the Sweet 16 in 1992 and reaching the Elite Eight in 1993. Edwards was selected in the first round of the 1993 NBA draft and was the 15th overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks. |
