Intelligence, heart, skill, hard work and patience are the qualitites that made Kim Hammond a great quarterback for Florida State. After three years on the redshirt and reserve list, Hammond got his first start in the second game of his senior year. Eight games later he was an All-American finishing fifth in the 1967 Heisman Trophy voting. He was recognized as the most valuable player in the Senior Bowl during that same year. Hammond completed 140 of 241 passes for 1,991 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior. At the time, his totals for completion, yardage and touchdowns were Seminole records. In the 1967 Gator Bowl, Hammond rewrote the record book with 37 completions for 362 yards and was named the game's most valuable player.
