Darby Cottle made such an impact on Florida State softball from 1979 to 1982 that she is the only player to have her number retired. Cottle, who won the prestigious Broderick Award in 1982 as the
nation's finest softball player, led the Lady Seminoles to consecutive AIAW slow pitch national championships in 1981 and 1982. The Ty Ty, Georgia native was named All-American in both her junior and
senior years and also was selected to the All-Region and All-National teams.
