The Florida State University Athletic Department presents the Moore-Stone Award for Outstanding Service to Florida State Athletics to Herb Morgan.

Florida State University alumnus Herb Morgan has, from his prestigious position in the Florida House of Representatives, been a prime mover in the affairs of his State, his City and his University. Recognized as one of the State's most effective and conscientious legislators, he has championed the cause of higher education.

As chairman of the Appropriations and Rules Committees, Herb's leadership resulted in major funding of athletic facilities, statewide equity for women's athletics, College of Business expansion, the FAMU/FSU Engineering College, the new University Union and numerous other FSU capital projects.

Herbert F. "Herb" Morgan, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, in Whigham, Ga. He is survived by his wife, Mary P. Morgan.

The service will be at 11 a.m. EST Monday at First Baptist Church in Tallahassee, with a private family burial. Family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. EST today at Culley's Meadow-Wood Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Calvary Baptist Church in Calvary, Ga., or Wiregrass Hospice in Bainbridge, Ga.

He lived in Tallahassee and Whigham. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He served as CEO of the Florida Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. He formerly served on the Board of Directors for Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare Hospital and Tallahassee Community College. Herb also served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1974 to 1986.

Other survivors include a son, Ashley Morgan of Tallahassee; a son, Whitson Morgan (and wife Tracie) of Huntsville, Ala.; four daughters, Erin Lee Morgan of Tallahassee, Lauren Sharpe (and husband Clay) of Montgomery, Ala., Julie Morgan Wallis (and husband Jay) of Memphis, Tenn. And Holly Kuhn (and husband Dan) of St. Petersburg; three brothers, Curtis Morgan (and wife Lillian) of Monticello and Elton Morgan (and wife Cam) and Comas Morgan (and wife Debbie), bot of Tallahassee; a sister, Edith Callaway (and husband George) of Manning, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Morgan; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Lee and Myrtle Morgan, a brother, J.L. Morgan and a sister, Mary Lee Driggers.
