Dick Artmeier, 6-0, 178, F-G, Clarksburg, IN (Clarksburg) - Very promising...won varsity berth, like four other incoming freshmen, with hustle and desire shown in pre-season drills...all-around athlete in high school...needs experience...best asset is defensive scrap...fair shot.
Tom Dellahan, 6-1, 195, F, East Chicago, IN (Roosevelt) - Well built...earned six high school letters...very promising...hot and cold shooter...could be rough on given night...needs experience...agile floor man...has nice one-hand push shot from sides and out front.
George Kallish, 5-9, 175, G, Chicago, IL (Tilden Tech) - Shortest player on squad...played freshman ball at FSU during latter half of 51-52 season...stocky...excellent play-maker...quick thinker...good ball handler...top-notch faker...hits well from outside...lots of drive...should see plenty of action.
H.B. Marcum, 5-11, 160, F, Somerset, KY - Perhaps the most promising freshman on the squad...deadliest shot on squad...when he gets set to shoot, its two points...good drive...fine dribbler...good defensive man...speedy, with plenty of drive...needs experience in fast company.
Dick Mott, 6-0, 205, G, Lynbrook, NY (East Rockaway) - Stockiest member of squad...good ball-hawk...fine rebounder, tip-in man...needs more game experience and polish...adept at "in-fighting" under basket...only red-head on team...has plenty of desire...likes to play.
Jim Oler, 5-11, 178, G, Economy, IN (Economy) - Very impressive in pre-season practice...best drive on squad...sets up plays...good feeder and passer...fine dribbler...good shot, both inside and out...very fast...could see much duty as a freshman.
Bill Wisner, 6-4, 183, F, Tarpon Springs (Tarpon Springs/Saint Petersburg JC) - Tall, fair rebounder...needs more experience...average shot-maker...won all-state guard honors in 1950 at Tarpon Springs High...geology major.
Gary Wold, 6-5, 210, C, Madison, WI (Madison East) - Heaviest and second tallest member on squad...needs experience...good rebounder...is developing effective hook shot with both hands...not too fast...should spell Benson at the pivot post this season.
Ed Wursbach, 6-4, 185, C, Daytona Beach (Seabreeze)
Ham Wernke, Florida State University's candidate for All-American honors, appears headed for another fine season. Wernke, a Helms Foundation All-American last season (1952-53), bucketed 32 points in
Florida State's opener against Mississippi State.
