1963 Florida State Signees/Newcomers

Bob Gemming, 6-7, 190, C, Jacksonville - Bob comes to FSU from the gateway city of Jacksonville...is a graduate of Bishop Kenny High School...was named all-city player...his school record high jump still stands...is a major in psychology...loves to swim as a hobby...plays the bongos in spare time.

Bill Giswold, 6-6, 185, F, Madison, WI - Bill is a curly haired blond from Wisconsin...is called the Golden Giraffe because of his height and hair color...he attended Edgewood and was all-city...all-state on the Catholic team...set city record high jump...still stands...after graduating from FSU plans to go to University of Wisconsin to study Dentistry...likes to ski...father played frosh basketball at Minnesota...is an excellent student.

Pete Gonzalez, 6-1, 155, G, Miami - Pete is a Miamian...went to Senior High School...was on the all-city team...lives basketball...called "Poncho" and "Speedy" by the players...is in the School of Business in Accounting...good ball handler.

Cal Huge, 6-4, 195, F, Madison, WI - Cal is the only married player on the squad...comes from Madison Wisconsin...went to West High...was all-city, all-conference, and all-state Honorable Mention...has abrother starting his third year as a starter on the Nebraska football team as an end...name is Jim...Cal hopes to go into the Municipal bond business...has an older brother who played basketball at Nebraska Wesleyn.

Bobby Lovell, 6-2, 190, G, Chattanooga, TN Bobby comes from Chattanooga, Tennessee where his friends called him the Chattanooga "Choo-Choo"...his dad was the captain of Tennessee's golf team in the mid-thirties...his sister held 2 track records for Tennessee in junior high...her name is Karen...he was all-state in basketball...is majoring in business and plans to enter the field after he graduates from FSU.

Pete Rogers, 6-4, 195, F-G, Daytona Beach - Pete is from Daytona...was All-State, All-American...averaged 21 points a game...is in marketing...wants to work with brother in trailer sales in Daytona...brother is a senior in Daytona this year...he is a transfer student from Georgia Tech where he played frosh ball in (1960-61)...then went to Junior College for a short time...then he came to FSU...looks to be a two way man being both a guard and forward.

Bob Rose, 6-6, 210, C, Jacksonville - Bob is from Jacksonville...is in the school of business and will go into the business world upon his graduation from FSU...was on the Jackson High School ball club...was on the all-city basketball team while in high school...should see action in the post...willing to work...should fit into the Seminole system.

Jerry Shirley, 6-5, 200, C, Mobile, AL - Jerry is from Mobile...went to Murphy High School...was on the all-state team...is a business major...wants to go into the Air Force as a possible career...was also on the high school champ golf team...can still shoot in the low seventies...keeps clubs in his locker...led Frosh in scoring last season.

Ross Winter, 6-3, 165, G, Mobile, AL - Ross is from Mobile...played on the same team as Shirley in high school...was honorable mention all-state...brother Ken plays football and runs track for Auburn...was second in the high jump in Alabama...won mile relay...another brother plays baseball at Mississippi Southern...good ball handler and has a wicked jump shot.

Tallahassee, Fl - Faurest Coogle, one of three seniors on FSU's basketball team, has been forced to give up play because of a chronic knee injury that has plagued him since his freshman year.

Rated one of the finest defensive players FSU has ever had, and a star of the Seminoles' upset of Kentucky when he was a sophomore, the 6-4 forward made his decision to quit after more than 150 ounces of fluid was drained from the knee in one week.

Tallahassee, Fl - Dale Ricketts, senior starting guard for the Florida State University basketball team, broke his wrist and was declared out for the rest of the season, Coach Bud Kennedy said today.

Ricketts broke his wrist when he slammed into the press table during the first five minutes of the Kentucky game in Lexington Wednesday night.
