Randy Cable, 5-11, 170, G, Massillon, OH (Jackson) - A dedicated ball player, and very coachable...was "quarterback" of last year's freshman team...an excellent outside shooter, his best shot is a jumper from 20 feet or more, but also drives well...excellent defensively, and has the potential to become a starter at most any time...has good speed and strength...all-around athlete lettered in football and baseball as well as basketball in high school.
Dave Cowens, 6-8, 210, C, Newport, KY (Newport Catholic) - Has a chance of breaking into the country's top 10 rebounders in this, his sophomore season...averaged 20 rebounds a game as a freshman, and is capable of picking up where he left off...has quickness and speed to develop into Florida State's finest big man...work on his moves facing the basket should make him a bigger scoring threat...has a winning tradition behind him, the last two teams that he played on have lost a total of five games...strongest defensively, because of his quickness...is lefthanded.
Bob DePathy, 6-3, 180, G, Hollywood (Chaminade) - Saw limited action as a freshman because of injuries...a strong outside shooter...has excellent attitude...is behind fundamentally because of time missed last season...must improve defense.
Jan Gies, 6-6, 190, F, Deerfield Beach (Pompano Beach) - Came on strong at end of freshman season and has worked on his own all summer...has added needed weight and gotten stronger...improved rebounding and aggressiveness...adequate speed and deceptive quickness...needs work on one-on-one situations and his outside shot.
Dale Klay, 6-2, 175, F, Tampa (Hillsborough/Chipola JC) - Junior college transfer who will add depth to the forward spot...he has tremendous quickness and will be an asset for the press.
Dave Macomber, 6-9, 210, C, Port Saint Joe (Port Saint Joe)
Larry Moore, 6-3, 210, F, South Bend, IN (John Adams) - An outstanding all around offensive player...if his defensive play improves he could be one of the best ever at Florida State...was scoring leader of last year's freshman team...best shot is a jumper...can hit from anywhere...was member of AAU All-Service championship team...should be one of the nation's top sophs this season.
Tom Porter, 5-9, 150, G, Zephyrhills (Zephyrhills)
Carl Reynolds, 6-2, 180, G, Fairborn, OH (Fairborn)

The Bucs sealed off FSU's passing lanes to its big front line, and built up a 17-point lead with five minutes to play, then held off a mild Seminole rally to win.
The Seminoles got back within eight with 1 1/2 minutes to play when Darrell Stewart hit two quick layups, but it wasn't nearly enough for Coach Huh Durham's squad.
Harley Swift, a tough 6-3 guard, led the Bucs. He hit 22 points and controlled the ball when the Seminoles began pressing in the second half. Time and again, Swift hit the bucket or the open man as the Tennessee club continually drove on the Seminoles.
FSU's problems started early as Swift hit three quick baskets to give Tennessee a 10-5 lead four minutes into the game. The Bucs opened the lead to seven, 37-30, at the half and continued to draw away in the final 20 minutes.
East Tennessee grabbed 49 rebounds while holding Dave Cowens and his teammates to 33. In fact, Cowens managed just four rebounds and 11 points before fouling out with less than 30 seconds to play.
Durham said: "They were the smaller team, but played like the bigger team tonight. The game paralleled a year's defensive statistics...we gave up 79 points a game and they game up about 70."
Jan Gies led Florida State with 13 points, Darrell Stewart added 12, Jeff Hogan 10.
Leroy Fisher, a 6-5 forward had 19 points for the Bucs and led all rebounders with 12.
East Tennessee now plays the Big Ten champion in Lexington, Ky, on Friday.
Durham, obviously dejected, added: "This isn't the way we like to end an exciting season, but now we know what we have to do." He did not explain the last statement.
East Tennessee led all the way, except in the first three minutes, taking the lead for good at 6-5.
The Buccaneers were never really threatened after breaking open the game early in the second half with 12 straight points that brought a 51-34 lead with 14:57 remaining. In a seven-minute span East Tennessee outscored Florida State 16-4.
Having a difficult time getting the ball inside, FSU had to shoot from out and the high scoring Seminoles got only 64 attempts. They hit 43.7 per cent, slightly more than East Tennessee, but could not win the battle on the boards and had to settle for one shot at a time.
