Ken Bush, 6-5, 195, F, Middletown, OH
Lance Kimrey, 6-6, 220, F, Norman, OK (Norman) Big and strong, and an intelligent ball player...respectable shooter for his size...strong student...came to Florida State on a dual baseball-basketball scholarship.
Ken Macklin, 6-2, 186, G, East Orange, NJ (East Orange/Morristown JC)
Denny Parker, 6-2, 175, G, Columbus, OH
Willie Williams, 6-7, 200, F, Miami (Booker T. Washington/Miami Dade CC)
Skip Young, 6-3, 165, G, Columbus, OH (Linden-McKinley) One of the most sought after players in Ohio...AA All-State performer, his team won the state AA Championship...selected player of the year at the State tournament...led city of Columbus in scoring...possibly the best guard prospect to come to Florida State...has tremendous quickness and is an excellent passer.
LaSalle received two years probation, and the other two schools one year each.
As a result, all three colleges are declared ineligible for post-season basketball tournaments during the probation period.
The rulings were made during the council's three-day fall meeting in St. Louis. Council members prepared recommendations for the NCAA convention in Los Angeles next January.
Arthur J. Bergstrom, assistant executive director of the NCAA, said the body's committee on infractions was expected to report to the council on violations at other colleges before the council
adjourns Wednesday.
The council reported that late last winter and early this spring, "Florida State University basketball coaches organized and conducted drills and practice sessions" for prospective athletic
scholarship winners.
The council also said that two recruits visiting the Florida State campus "were provided a cost-free sight-seeing trip to Panama City, Fl."
Another violation attributed to Florida State was the organization by basketball coaches of mandatory practice sessions during the off-season, with the coaches in attendance.
...
"We knew we were under investigation last May," he told The Times-Union by telephone from Tallahassee Tuesday night. "We have just been waiting for the judgement of the NCAA council.
"I have no criticism of the NCAA in any way," he added. "The penalty was about what we expected, and we don't feel it was too strict.
"Naturally we're disappointed, especially for our seniors," he said.
"The probation means we won't be permitted to play in any post-season tournaments, and we thought we had a good chance to return to the NCAA tournament.
"But, I think we have the caliber of players who will respond to national rankings - that's our No. 1 goal."
Durham, however, said he is "glad that his seniors did get to participate in Florida State's first NCAA tournament."
The Seminoles were awarded an at-large berth in the NCAA Mideast Regional at Kent State last spring.
Earlier in the day, FSU Athletic Director Vaughan Mancha, in a prepared statement, said: "I am disappointed the violations took place in the basketball program. I feel the basketball coaches used poor
judgement in allowing these infractions to take place."
Mancha and FSU President John Champion said the school planned to make the necessary changes in the program to comply with the NCAA regulations.
Champion, like Durham, said he believes the school had been treated fairly in the matter.
