Larry Gay, 6-5, 195, F, Winchester, KY (George Rogers Clark)
- Another prep all-stater who played in two all-star games with Ron King...third Kentuckian who came off the freshman club...averaged 21.9 points and 16.4 rebounds with frosh...could be most
under-rated freshman player in the country with those stats...he's 6-5 swingman who can play either post or wing...surprised coaches last season with outside shooting ability...played high post on
frosh...like most sophomores, he has to improve defense and he has the ability to do it...steady, sound basketball player.
Charlie Green, 6-0, 175, G, Tampa (Hillsborough/Lake City CC)
- Florida State has been interested in Green since he led powerful Hillsborough High to a No. 1 state ranking...another good outside shooter...exceptional lateral movement which helps defensive
player...was starter on Lake City Junior College team last season...Lake City finished third in the national JC tournament after capturing state title.
Ron King, 6-4, 175, G, Louisville, KY (Central)
- Broke freshman scoring record with 35.7 average...also, broke Tully Gym mark with a 52-point game...comes with as high credentials as any freshman in Florida State history...rated by a wire service
as the No. 2 prep prospect in the country...contacted by over 150 colleges and narrowed his choice to Louisville, Kentucky, Michigan and Purdue before selecting Florida State...named "Mr. Basketball"
in Kentucky following his senior season...broke Louisville scoring record by averaging 27.1 in his senior season...record had stood since 1955...broke Cliff Hagan's state tournament single game record
of 44 points while leading his team to the championship along with a 35-1 season...last season he was the nation's third-leading freshman scorer...has the physical attributes to be an outstanding
college forward and pro guard...has speed, quickness and is great shooter...very coachable, he works hard, wanting to learn...will work on weaker points...Coach Durham says he's "best 'pure' shooter"
he's seen at Florida State.
Otto Petty, 5-7, 150, G, Louisville, KY (Central)
- After watching Petty play as a freshman, Coach Durham said: "he's the best college passer I've seen in the state of Florida"...averaged 15 assists as freshman and had game high of 23...was teammate
of Ron King on Louisville Central's state prep championship team...named "Star of Stars" after Kentucky-Indiana prep all-star game...great feeder, he's a little man who is a crowd favorite...his
ball-handling ability is a definite asset in Florida State's one man front attack...must overcome lack of size by improving defense...good shooter who can improve...will challenge for starting berth.
Mike Rhaney, 6-0, 170, G, Tallahassee (Florida)
- Was fifth starter on outstanding freshman team...hard worker who likes defense...must improve outside shooting...prepped on Seminole campus at Florida High...very good student.
Reggie Royals, 6-10, 195, C, Whiteville, NC (Whiteville)
- "Blue chip basketball player," says Coach Durham...Durham thinks combination of King and Royals may be as good a sophomore duo as there is in the coutry...exceptional speed and quickness for 6-10
performer...outstanding shooter from 20-22 feet...also will take the ball to the hole...at this stage of his career he's farther along as a feeder than any big man in Florida State history...gained
some strength during summer by working with weights...still needs to add more...another prep All-American...in high school, led team to three state championships and 115-2 record...good shot blocker
who has the ability to play defense...will be a definite pro prospect...named "The Tree."
Greg Samuel, 5-8, 150, G, Hollywood (Broward CC)
- Exceptional quickness and great outside shooter...overcomes size with speed and quickness...averaged 29.4 at Broward JC last season...that made him sixth leading JC scorer in the country...counted
1,830 career points at Broward...had games of 60, 45 and 41 points...Coach Durham thinks enough of Samuel that he might move Young to a wing at times and play him at point...ranks behind King as the
squad's No. 2 outside shooter...was high school and junior college all-state.
