David Brownyard, 6-2, 160, G, Winter Haven (Winter Haven) - After slow start, he became one of the most productive on freshmen team last season...brought field goal percentage up from 33 to 49, doubling his point average...ended with a 14.6 clip per game...had a streak of eight out of nine games in double figure scoring...good, quick shot from top of key...paced high school team to 27-2 record his senior year...voted Most Outstanding Player three consecutive years...scoring a career 1,102 points...set several school records...his team lost 91-86 in seven overtimes in state tournament.
Dennis Burke, 5-9, 165, G, Brooklyn, NY (Saint John's Prep) - Quick little man, confident with ball in either hand...led freshmen in assists...is capable of doing same for varsity...very accurate shot from outside...can thread through middle easily and make layup against bigger opponents...Burke's performance was dampened by poor record of last season's freshmen, however his ballhandling brought cheers from onlookers...coming out of high school, he was called by college scouts the nation's top prep playmakers under six feet tall...tagged All-American by two magazines...was named outstanding player in the Second Annual Sports Foundation, Inc. All-Star Classic in New York...in New York All-Star game, he won the playmaker trpohy...averaged 12.8 points as a freshman last season...averaged 20 points and 10 assists in high school.
Benny Clyde, 6-7, 195, F, Saint Petersburg (Gibbs/Ellsworth JC) - Voted most valuable player in last season's national junior college tournament...was All-American both years at Ellsworth JC...selected Florida State from 250 other scholarship offers...outstanding moves, has accurate shot from anywhere on court...considered by some scouts as nation's top JC prospect...averaged 24 points and 15 rebounds at Ellsworth.
Greg Grady, 6-9, 195, C, New York, NY (Eastern District) - Called by one scouting agency, the best school boy defensive intimidator since Lew Alcider...a prep All-American...some consider him one of the top 10 prospects in the nation...averaged 25 points and 23 rebounds...earned All-Metro and All-City honors...will probably fit easily into Florida State's style of play because of defensive ability.
Otis Johnson, 6-8, 200, F, Stuart (Brevard CC) - An outstanding big man who'll definitely help Florida State basketball...a good leaper...blocks shots easily...strong rebounder and shooter...moves well with ball...was Honorable Mention All-American in junior college and high school...while at Brevard JC, he played under Coach Jim Oler, Florida State's all-time leading scorer...Johnson's team won 48 of 52 games during his two years at Brevard...he averaged 18 points and 13 rebounds his sophomore year as Brevard finished second in the state.
Zach Perkins, 6-6, 180, F, Crestview (Crestview) - Led his team to a 22-6 record and the conference title hihs senior year...holds school record in career rebounding with 1,200...also fourth in school's history in all-time scoring with 1,504 points...averaged 26 points and 20 rebounds...named to Class AAA All-State team and participated in All-Star contest.
Cyril Stitt, 6-0, 160, G, Tallahassee (Florida) - Averaged 28 points with most of his scoring from the 25-30 feet range...never below 10 points in any game in his senior year...several times he hit over 40...usually accounted for at least half of his team's points...named All-State and All-Conference.
