FSU Men's Basketball - 1976-77 Year In Review

Florida State joined the one year old Metro Conference. The members of the conference competed against each other in all sports except football. The seven members of the conference were Cincinnati, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Memphis State, Saint Louis and Tulane.

1977 Florida State Signees/Newcomers

Kris Anderson, 6-8, 205, F-C, Yulee (Fernandina Beach) - All-state performer in high school averaging 19 points and 13 rebounds per game...plays the game intelligently...has good hands and shoots well for a big man...his big adjustment will come in his defensive play and on the boards...needs more strength...his attitude is a definite plus factor.

Murray Brown, 6-7, 190, F, Tampa (Robinson) - Excetional leaper who is very physical on the boards...one of the most aggressive performers among the freshman...has good timing and coordination and scores well low...needs to make some improvements defensively...was an All-State player in high school.

Mickey Dillard, 6-2, 160, G, Dania (Nova) - Exceptionally quick...one of the quickest players on the squad...also has excellent leaping ability...he is a total player with excellent defensive potential as well as offensive...shoots well inside and has the ability and strength to take the ball to the basket...he is a cousin of teammate Carlton Byrd...also an All-State performer.

Tony Jackson, 6-0, 160, G, Lexington, KY (Bryan Station) - Was an all-everything performer in the state of Kentucky and has been to war more than any freshman...he toured Spain and Russia following his senior season...quickness is his biggest asset and should team well with Mickey Dillard...comes in as a playmaker and handles the ball extremely well...also penetrates well but he needs some improvement on his outside shooting...he is a hard worker with a great attitude...will be a tremendous defensive player...he accepts a defensive challenge and will fit the Florida State system.

Donnie Kuhl, 6-9, 220, C, Orlando (Evans) - Biggest player on the squad and runs well for a big man...has good strength after some extensive off-season work...had a leg injury and missed much of his senior season, but is expected to perform well as a freshman...has good hands and strong rebounding ability...needs to gain consistency.

Dave Vetica, 6-3, 175, G, Ellwood City, PA - Has a super attitude and is a hard worker...an excellent shooter who averaged 32 points per game in high school...best outside shooter among the freshmen...is a good ball handler and has potential to be a good playmaker...gained 15 pounds in the off-season.
