Clothier's Big Night Not Enough at No. 13 Georgia Tech.
Sophomore middle blocker Emma Clothier totaled a career-best 15 kills on 22 swings, but Florida State Volleyball fell to the Yellow Jackets, 3-0.

ATLANTA, Ga. - It was a career performance for sophomore middle blocker Emma Clothier, but it wasn't enough for Florida State Volleyball to overcome 13th-ranked Georgia Tech on the road at O'Keefe Gymnasium.

The Seminoles (0-1) dropped their season opener to the Yellow Jackets (2-1) in straight sets (17-25, 18-25, 24-26), despite getting noticeably stronger as the match went on.

"Disappointed in the loss, but we got better as the match progressed," FSU head coach Chris Poole said. "With Taryn (Knuth) out, we were having to play with a new lineup. I thought we improved with it but not enough to win. We did have some individual performances that did really well, so that is something we can build on."

The All-American Knuth's absence due to injury was felt greatly, but fellow All-ACC performer Clothier stepped up mightily. Clothier recorded 15 kills on 22 swings and did not commit an attack error.

The Carrollton, Texas, native hit .682 for the match and also added four blocks and a service ace. She teamed very well with redshirt senior newcomer Olivia Dailey, who finished with 15 assists while starting setter Lily Tessier added 16 assists. In just over a year, Tessier now has 633 career assists to move into 24th all-time at FSU.

Senior outside hitter Jasmyn Martin did her best to carry some of the offensive load, adding eight kills with a .348 attack percentage. Senior libero Caroline Golden led the Seminoles with 14 digs in her FSU debut.

Georgia Tech's combination of Julia Bergmann (17 kills) and Mariana Brambilla (15 kills) led the way for the Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech out-hit FSU .333-.265, getting 24 more attack opportunities than the Seminoles.

FSU fought hard in each of the first two sets, and then went back and forth in the third set where it attacked at a .310 clip. Martin ignited FSU in the final frame with five kills on 12 swings, followed by four kills from Clothier.

A kill by Tessier gave the Seminoles a 20-17 advantage in the third set, and another kill by Martin made it 21-17 FSU. But Georgia Tech won five of the next six points to knot the set at 22-22.

A key kill by FSU middle blocker Marissa Stockman gave the Seminoles the lead again at 23-22, and Clothier's kill made it set point at 24-23. But the Yellow Jackets rattled off three straight points to win the match, culminating with three straight kills from Bergmann.

Seminoles Drop Second Match at No. 13 Georgia Tech.
Florida State Volleyball falls on the road in straight sets on Thursday.

By FSU Sports Information Intern Ian Bolger

ATLANTA, Ga. - Despite improving throughout the match, Florida State Volleyball fell for a second straight day on the road against 13th-ranked Georgia Tech (14-25, 17-25, 20-25).

"Tough week," FSU head coach Chris Poole said. "I'm hoping the team learns from this experience. We have a lot to work on and were able to identify problems. Now we have to push it to get better. It's not easy being part of an elite program. We will improve."

Redshirt sophomore Morgan Chacon had a stellar performance for the Noles, as she posted seven kills, five digs, and a service ace.

All-ACC performer Emma Clothier led Florida State in kills with eight, hitting .462 for the match. Jasmyn Martin was also a presence on offense for the Noles, as her and Chacon both led the team in total attacks with 22 each. Lily Tessier led the team in assists with 16, with Olivia Dailey not far behind, totaling 11 assists.

Senior All-American Taryn Knuth's absence was felt once again, as she's been battling an injury that's kept her out of both matches this weekend.

Mariana Brambilla (17 kills) and Julia Bergmann (13 kills and no errors) were yet again forces to be reckoned with for the Yellow Jackets (3-1). Georgia Tech out-hit FSU .446-.181, while also leading the match in kills (50-32) and digs (39-28).

Georgia Tech jumped out early in the first set, taking leads of 11-4 and 18-8 against FSU. The Noles weren't able to recover from the large deficits and lost the first set at 14-25.

FSU faced a much similar problem yet again in the second set, as they were down early again 10-2. A service ace by Tessier and a pair of kills by Martin helped cut Georgia Tech's lead down to five at 16-11, but the Yellow Jackets went on a late run and won the second set at 25-17.

The two teams kept it close throughout the majority of the third set, as the largest lead in the set was two points up until the score was 15-15. Georgia Tech started to pull away late in the set after back-to-back errors by the Noles and a kill by Mikaila Dowd to make it 18-15. A kill by Adrian Ell and a service ace by Caroline Golden pulled FSU back within one point.

The Yellow Jackets rattled off another three-point streak to make it 21-17, but an exchange of points by both teams made the score 23-20, which included a pair of kills by Chacon and a kill from Clothier. A service error and a kill by Brambilla finished off the set for Georgia Tech for them to win the match in straight sets.

Chacon's 19 Kills Lead Noles to Big Win at No. 11 Miami.
Morgan Chacon's 19 kills and 14 digs pace Florida State Volleyball to a 3-1 road win over the rival Hurricanes. MIAMI, Fla. - Led by the standout play of redshirt sophomore outside hitter Morgan Chacon, the Florida State Volleyball Team conquered 11th-ranked and rival Miami on the road on Thursday night, winning 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-19) at the Knight Sports Complex in Miami, Fla.

The win ties for Florida State's highest-ranked victory over an ACC opponent, matching its win over No. 11 North Carolina in 2002. It also ties for the third-highest ranked road victory in program history.

"Really proud of the team," FSU head coach Chris Poole said following his 844th career win. "We worked hard over the past week trying to improve on problems we had last weekend. We had much better balance on offense and our defense got better as the match progressed. Miami split with Georgia Tech and they are always tough at home. We need to recover tonight and get ready for another battle tomorrow."

Chacon was indeed ready for tonight's battle, recording her second-highest kill total for her career in ACC play. Last year she put down 20 kills against the Tar Heels, and her young FSU career high is 21 last season vs. High Point.

Chacon also added her 10th career double-double with 19 kills and 14 digs, and hit .405 for the match (19 kills and just two errors in 42 swings). It is her third career match hitting above the 40 percent mark, a very lofty percentage for an outside hitter.

A dominant FSU offensive attack hit .348 for the match, as senior outside hitter Jasmyn Martin added 15 kills with three blocks. She hit 30 percent for the match, with only three errors in her 40 attacks.

Sophomore middle blocker Emma Clothier kept up her steady pace, adding 13 kills and no attack errors in 21 swings for a .619 hitting percentage. She also recorded two blocks and a service ace.

The difference from last weekend to Thursday's big win was FSU's elevation in its passing. Throughout the night, the Seminoles were mostly crisp in serve receive, led by Chacon's 14 digs. Sophomore Lauryn Burrows and senior Caroline Golden each added nine digs in what was a collective effort defensively.

Redshirt sophomore setter Lily Tessier (24 assists) and redshirt senior setter Olivia Dailey (22 assists) each played a huge role in their offense's successful attack. Tessier added two kills, while Dailey recorded three service aces including back-to-back aces in the fourth set.

Florida State Splits with 11th-ranked Hurricanes.
Seminole volleyball falls to the Canes on the road, 3-0, on Friday; splits regular season against their Sunshine State conference rival.

By Ian Bolger, FSU Sports Information Intern

MIAMI, Fla. - A fine performance by redshirt sophomore setter Lily Tessier wasn't enough for the Florida State volleyball team as it dropped its match to 11th-ranked Miami in straight sets (20-25, 24-26, 19-25) on Friday afternoon at the Knight Sports Complex in Miami, Fla.

After beating their in-state rival the day before, along with tying for their highest-ranked victory over an ACC opponent in program history, the Seminoles (1-3, 1-3) couldn't find the same magic today against a motivated Hurricanes (5-3, 5-3) team that was celebrating senior day.

"Good effort, and the players never quit. But we just didn't execute as well today," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "It is really tough to play a good team on the road in back to back days and our offense just didn't get in a rhythm. We need to put in the work this week and finish our fall with finally getting some matches at home."

Tessier recorded her fourth double-double of her career by putting up 10 digs and 10 assists in the match. She posted her season high in digs and was four shy of matching her career high total of 14 digs that she recorded last season vs. UCF.

Her performance marked FSU's noticeable improvement in its passing game this weekend.

Senior Jasmyn Martin collected several kills for the Noles, leading the team with 10 in 33 total attacks. Redshirt sophomore Morgan Chacon also had a strong presence in this match with 29 total attacks, 13 digs, and five kills.

Miami's Elizavet Lukianova (14 kills) and Savannah Ach (42 assists) were too much for the Seminoles to handle. The Hurricanes controlled the majority of the match by out-hitting FSU .258-.132, while also leading the match in total attacks (124-121) and digs (46-34).

The first set of the match went back and forth, as no lead was larger than three points by either team until Miami took the lead at 23-19. Chacon tried to bring the Noles back with a kill late in the set, but a pair of kills by Janet Kalaniuvalu pushed Miami to take the first set at 25-20.

Florida State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second set, as Chacon had an early service ace, but Miami responded with four straight points, which included back-to-back service aces by Priscilla Hernandez. Miami maintained the lead later on in the set, but three straights errors from the Hurricanes and a kill from Martin brought the Noles back to tie the set at 11-11.

The Seminoles were down by three points late in the set after Miami rumbled off two separate runs of four straight points. FSU rallied back, putting the score at 24-24, but a kill by Kalaniuvalu and a net violation by the Noles gave the Hurricanes the set win at 26-24.

Much like the second set, Florida State took an early 4-2 lead in the third, but Miami rattled off five points behind four kills to go up 7-4. Miami maintained a comfortable lead throughout the third set until the Noles scored four straight points to cut the lead for the Hurricanes at 18-15.

A pair of kills by the Seminoles sparked a comeback opportunity late in the set, but four straight points, including a game-ending service ace by Angela Grieve, finished off the set and the match for the Hurricanes.

Knuth's Big Day Leads to Doubleheader Sweep over Clemson.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Senior middle blocker Taryn Knuth missed the fall due to injury. Her presence was more than felt in her return to action on Saturday, leading Florida State indoor volleyball to a doubleheader sweep over Clemson at Tully Gym.

Knuth's career-high 16 blocks in the spring season opener, along with 14 kills on a .700 hitting percentage, guided the Seminoles (3-3, 3-3) to a four-set win in the morning match (19-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-15). She followed with seven more blocks along with nine kills on 10 swings in a three-setter (25-20, 25-14, 25-12) over the Tigers (7-6, 3-5).

Combined, Knuth totaled 23 blocks (5 solo) and recorded 23 kills on 30 swings with no errors (.767 hitting percentage) in FSU's two wins on Saturday. It was a fitting return for arguably the nation's top middle blocker who is the NCAA's active leader with 1.61 blocks per set.

The Johnston, Iowa, native had plenty of help as well. Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Morgan Chacon and senior outside hitter Jasmyn Martin each recorded 20 kills in the two matches, while sophomore middle blocker Emma Clothier combined for 17 kills, a .625 hitting percentage and seven blocks on the day.

The doubleheader sweep for the Seminoles marks 15 straight wins over Clemson dating back to Oct. 16, 2011. Head Coach Chris Poole is now 19-2 vs. the Tigers since becoming FSU's head coach in 2008.

Led by Knuth's effort at the net, FSU recorded an astounding 20 team blocks in the first match. Chacon helped pace the Seminole defensive front with six blocks of her own. Clothier put down 10 balls on 16 swings to give FSU multiple offensive threats. The Seminoles hit at a .281 clip while Clemson hit just .151 in the opener.

Chacon picked up her 11th career double-double, and the second of the 2020-21 year, in the first match with 10 kills and 10 digs.

The second match was a clean sweep as FSU came out dominant from the start. Sophomore outside hitter Jessica Nunge was solid with six kills on 12 attacks and a .417 hitting percentage.

Florida State Volleyball Goes 2-0 vs. UCF and Troy.

By Ian Bolger, Florida State Sports Information intern

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - After coming back down two sets earlier in the day against UCF, the Florida State volleyball team (5-3, 3-3) dominated against Troy (11-8, 10-6) in straight sets (25-18, 25-13, 25-17) on Friday afternoon at Tully Gymnasium.

The Seminoles capped a strong day by out-lasting the Knights (8-1) in five sets in what was a thrilling opening match. Senior outside hitter Jasmyn Martin had a big match with 13 kills, five blocks and hitting .417 against UCF. Sophomore middle blocker Emma Clothier was also key with 13 kills, four blocks, eight digs and a .600 clip.

FSU clawed back from two sets down and dominated the decisive fifth set, hitting .316 in the final frame. An important 4-0 run in the set put FSU ahead 8-3 following an attack error by UCF, which was preceded by a big block from Taryn Knuth and Jessica Nunge. FSU would end the match on a 5-0 run, which included kills by Martin and Knuth, to seal the match.

In the second match, the Noles played against the Troy Trojans for the first time since Sept. 18, 2004. This was also the Seminoles' sixth time facing Troy in program history, as they are now 6-0 against them all-time and have never lost a set to them in each of those six wins.

Redshirt sophomore Lily Tessier had a stellar performance in the match, putting together a team-high 25 assists, along with six digs, six total attacks, and four kills.

Redshirt sophomore Morgan Chacon had a strong presence with 16 total attacks, 10 digs, and nine kills. She was one kill away from recording her third double-double of the season.

Junior Marissa Stockman led the team in blocks with seven and paired it with eight total attacks. Martin also played well with five kills, while sophomore Lauryn Burrows recorded 14 digs in the match.

Although Troy had more attacks than FSU, 105-85, the Seminoles were able to overcome that difference by leading in kills, 32-26, as well as digs, 45-32. The Noles also committed fewer errors, 29-12, and had seven more blocks than the Trojans.

The scoring went back and forth between FSU and Troy in the first set until the Seminoles went on a 7-2 scoring run to take a 19-14 lead. Another run that included a service ace from Clothier and back-to-back kills from freshman Sydney Conley pushed the Noles to take the set at 25-18.

The Seminoles picked up where they left off from the end of the first set and jumped out to a 10-5 lead to start the second set. FSU didn't allow the Trojans to get two straight points for the rest of the set and won, 25-13, behind 13 total kills and a service ace from Chacon.

In the third set, the Noles continued to stay in control, as they put together a run of seven points after trailing 9-8 earlier in the set. FSU finished the set with three total aces and Nunge delivered the game-winning kill to beat the Trojans in straight sets.

Seminoles Sweep Duke on the Road.

DURHAM, N.C. - Florida State Volleyball continues its strong spring season with a 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-22, 25-19) over Duke on Friday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

"We played great overall today," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "A lot of different players stepped up at key moments in the match. We will need to come out tomorrow with the same intensity and focus."

The Seminoles (7-3, 4-3) are now 6-0 this spring. They got their first road win in as many tries in the new season behind a strong performance from sophomore middle blocker Emma Clothier and her seven kills and six blocks. Clothier hit .636 in the match, not recording a single attack error in 11 swings.

Redshirt senior setter Olivia Dailey was outstanding with 29 assists and 13 digs for a double-double showing. Dailey added three kills on the day and an impressive five blocks.

In three sets, the Seminoles totaled 10 team blocks and attacked at an efficient .294 clip. Duke hit .195 for the match and tallied just five team blocks.

Sophomore outside hitter Jessica Nunge was also efficient in the winning effort, getting six kills and eight digs and recording a .312 hitting percentage.

Libero Caroline Golden added nine digs in the win.

Seminoles Reel Off Seventh Straight Win.

Written by Ian Bolger, Florida State Sports Information intern

DURHAM, N.C. - After beating Duke in straight sets yesterday, the Florida State volleyball team (8-3, 4-3) repeated that feat this afternoon by defeating the Blue Devils (8-5, 6-3) in straight sets (25-23, 26-24, 26-24) once again in a non-conference match at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

FSU extends their winning streak to seven games since restarting their season this spring. The Seminoles also keep their winning streak alive over Duke, as they have now won nine straight matches against them over the past six seasons.

"Tough battle today," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "We were up in all three sets but to their credit, Duke wouldn't go away. It was good to see us win all three tight sets. It's not easy to beat a team twice on the road and even tougher on back to back days. Proud of the team this weekend staying focused."

Redshirt senior Olivia Dailey was the player of the match for the Noles, recording her second straight double-double and third of the season with 26 assists and 12 digs. She also hit .250, had four total attacks, and had a service ace in her performance.

Redshirt sophomore Morgan Chacon had a fantastic match with 12 kills and nine digs. She also hit .286 to go along with the contributed 12 points in this match and was one dig away from her fourth double-double of the season.

Senior Jasmyn Martin had a similar performance against the Blue Devils, as she tied Chacon for the team-highs in total attacks with 35 and kills with 12 total. She also hit .229 and contributed a team-high 13 points in the winning effort.

Senior Caroline Golden had a great performance with a team-high 13 digs. Sophomore Jessica Nunge and senior Taryn Knuth also played well, combining for 27 total attacks and nine kills. Knuth hit .455.

The Seminoles were neck and neck with Duke in every set. Even though the Blue Devils had more total attacks, 134-115, the Noles were able to gain an advantage in hitting percentage, .252%-.157%, as that seemed to be the difference-maker in this match.

Composure late in sets was also another factor to what helped the Noles take the weekend sweep against the Blue Devils, as all three sets won by the Noles were by two points.

The Seminoles came out hot with five straight points to start, which included two kills by Martin. Duke came back to tie the set at 23, but back-to-back points by the Noles pushed them to win the first set at 25-23.

The second set was a similar story to the first one, as FSU was up by as much as five points and Duke came back to tie it at 21. Back-to-back service aces by Golden built their lead in the middle of the set and back-to-back kills by Chacon finished a close second set for the Noles at 26-24.

Most of the third set stayed close throughout, as no team had more than a two-point lead until the Seminoles went up 13-11. Two separate runs of four points and back-to-back clutch points to end the final set is what lifted the Noles to defeated the Blue Devils in straight sets.

Noles Defeat No. 14 Notre Dame in Comeback Thriller.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - For the second time in the spring season, Florida State Volleyball mounted a five-set comeback as it took down No. 14 Notre Dame in impressive fashion, 3-2 (21-25, 23-25, 25-12, 25-16, 15-11), on Friday night at Tully Gym.

The comeback victory extends FSU's undefeated spring record to 8-0 and also builds its win streak to eight matches. It's the program's longest winning stretch since winning 10 straight in the 2015 season.

FSU moves to 9-3 overall and is 5-3 in the ACC. In its 2-0 weekend last week at Duke, the 3-0 victory on Saturday counts as a non-conference match.

"I'm very proud of the character our team showed tonight," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said following his 852nd career victory. "We showed a lot of resilience and we're continuing to get better and better and realizing our potential."

The win is also the 25th Top-15 victory in program history, including FSU's second this year after defeating No. 11 Miami back in the fall.

Redshirt sophomore Morgan Chacon spear-headed the comeback, delivering 18 kills in a career-high 50 swings and hitting .300, a fine percentage for an outside hitter. Chacon added 10 digs for her 13th career double-double.

Senior libero Caroline Golden showed excellent coverage throughout the match, tying her FSU career high with 17 digs. Introduced to the libero position this season, Golden has shown immense improvement in her game this spring and is a big reason why the Seminoles have started this season 8-0.

Senior middle blocker Taryn Knuth poured it on vs. the Fighting Irish (9-2, 8-2), which entered the match at the top of the ACC standings. Knuth registered 13 kills in 21 swings with just one attack error (.571 hitting percentage) and added three blocks.

Sophomore Jessica Nunge had a big performance as well, totaling six kills and nine digs.

Fellow sophomore Emma Clothier was once again dominant, recording 13 kills and a .480 hitting percentage while adding four blocks. Despite playing in a five-setter, Notre Dame was able to hit around FSU's vaunted blocking game as the Seminoles totaled just seven team blocks.

Redshirt senior setter Olivia Dailey tallied an FSU career-best 50 assists in Friday's match.

The fifth and final set was neck-and-neck through the first nine rallies as FSU built a small 5-4 advantage. Back-to-back points by Nunge and a bad set by Notre Dame off Golden's serve gave FSU an 8-5 cushion.

Notre Dame would not go quietly, as Hannah Thompson's kill cut the Irish deficit to 10-9. But three consecutive points by FSU, which included two Irish attack errors and a kill by Knuth, gave the Seminoles the space they needed. Another error by Notre Dame would end the match and complete the comeback for the Seminoles.

FSU hit just .114 in the opening set, but never hit less than .321 in each of the remaining four sets. Conversely, Notre Dame opened the first two frames hitting .273 and .390, but then struggled offensively by hitting just .119 the rest of the way.

Florida State 3, No. 14 Notre Dame 2

Seminoles Extend Win Streak to Nine Straight.

By Ian Bolger, Florida State Sports Information intern

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State volleyball team (10-3, 6-3) put on a show on Sunday afternoon as they conquered Virginia Tech (5-6, 4-6), 3-1, (25-13, 22-25, 25-16, 25-9) at Tully Gymnasium.

The Seminoles extend their winning streak to nine matches since the start of the spring season. They also won their eighth straight match against the Hokies to bring their all-time record against them to 34-4.

"Overall, I am very pleased with the weekend," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "Everyone contributed to the wins and we are only going to get better."

The Noles add on to their streak with the statement victory after coming back down two sets for the second time this season against Notre Dame a couple of days earlier.

Redshirt senior Olivia Dailey had an excellent performance in the match with a team-high 29 assists and nine digs. She was one dig away from her fifth double-double of the year.

Redshirt sophomore Morgan Chacon was a prominent player against Virginia Tech as well, leading the team with 39 attacks and 17 kills on .359 hitting, along with putting up nine digs and three assists. She was also one dig away from her fifth double-double of the season.

Senior Taryn Knuth had a stellar game this afternoon with 12 kills on .550 hitting, and four blocks. She was responsible for 14 points and recorded a team-high .600 kill percentage in the winning effort.

Senior Jasmyn Martin was the third Seminole with double-digit kills with 14, along with having 25 total attacks and four digs to go along with it. Sophomore Lauryn Burrows led the team with 10 digs and sophomore Jessica Nunge was close behind with nine digs of her own.

FSU led the match in kills, 60-43, and hitting percentage, .311-.158. They also had more digs, 57-46, and committed fewer attack errors, 20-14.

The match opened up with back and forth scoring until the Seminoles ripped off four straight points behind Dailey's service ace to put the Seminoles up by six. Late in the first set, three straight kills by FSU and an attack error by the Hokies ended a dominant set for the Noles, in which they won by 12 points.

The second set started similar to the first in its close scoring, but Virginia Tech responded with an 8-3 run to put them up by three. The Seminoles scored three straight in a late comeback attempt, but the Hokies shut it down ending the set with back-to-back points to tie the match at one set each.

FSU answered back with three different runs of four straight points throughout the third set, including the final four points. Kills by Martin and freshman Sydney Conley in the last 4-0 run ended the set and the Noles took a 2-1 lead in the match.

The Noles jumped out to a 13-4 lead behind two service aces in the fourth set and never looked back. They went on an eight-point streak with seven consecutive kills and redshirt sophomore Lily Tessier ended the final set with a kill to end the match against the Hokies.

Seminoles Snap Win Streak vs. No. 13 Louisville.

By Ian Bolger, Florida State Sports Information intern

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 25 Florida State volleyball team (11-4, 7-4) had its 10-match winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon by 13th-ranked Louisville (10-2, 8-2), 3-1 (25-19, 16-25, 21-25, 16-25), in a neutral site match at Memorial Gym in Charlottesville, Va.

The Seminoles suffered their first loss since restarting their season on Feb. 13. This is also the Noles' first loss to Louisville since Oct. 22, 2017.

"We started well, but did not execute the last three sets," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. It's the first time this spring that we did not get stronger as the match progressed. Hats off to Louisville. I thought they played really well and deserved the win. We need to learn from this match and come back stronger."

Redshirt sophomore Morgan Chacon had a stellar match with 12 kills, 10 digs, 48 total attacks and a block. This is Chacon's fifth double-double of the season.

Redshirt senior Olivia Dailey performed well, putting together a team-high 32 assists, nine digs, and five total attacks. This was her fifth match this season with multiple service aces and she was one dig away from her fifth double-double of the season as well.

Sophomore Emma Clothier tied Chacon in this match for the team high in kills with 12, along with having 21 total attacks and a service ace. Senior Jasmyn Martin added eight kills and five digs.

Both senior Caroline Golden and sophomore Lauryn Burrows led the team in digs with 11 each. Golden added on five assists to her day, while Burrows tacked on three total attacks, two assists, and a kill.

FSU was outscored in many facets of the match, including kills, 60-43, assists, 53-40, and digs, 64-51. Louisville also led in hitting percentage, .260-.131, and committed less errors, 24-21, throughout the match.

The Seminoles were scorching hot to start off with seven straight points that included a pair of kills each by Chacon and Clothier. The Cardinals were able to bring it back within two at 15-13, but a 7-2 run by the Noles helped put away the first set.

Louisville started to pick up momentum in the second set, as it was able to jump out to a 19-14 lead. The Cardinals added on two points to the score and the Seminoles weren't able to come back from the deficit in that set.

The Noles had an early two-point lead in the third set, but Louisville battled back to tie it at eight points each. FSU kept it close through most of the set, but the Cardinals took the lead at 22-19 and ended up winning the set by four points.

In the fourth set, the Seminoles trailed early at 15-10 to Louisville. FSU was able to bring it within four points to make the score 20-16, but the Cardinals ripped off five straight points to beat the Noles in four sets.

Seminoles Fall to No. 19 Pitt.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Despite leading the match in hitting percentage, No. 25 Florida State Volleyball (10-4, 7-5) was defeated on Friday evening against 19th-ranked Pittsburgh (13-4, 11-4), 3-1 (19-25, 22-25, 25-14, 20-25), in a conference battle at Fitzgerald Field House.

This is the Seminoles' second straight loss to a ranked opponent, as well as their second loss since their season resumed earlier this spring. FSU is 9-2 since the start of the New Year.

"Disappointing loss. Pitt is a great team and unfortunately in the three sets we lost we simply helped them too much with our unforced errors," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "There were times we played amazing but not consistently enough through the whole match. We are in a must-win situation these last three matches so we need to step up our game."

Senior Taryn Knuth played a terrific game with 14 kills on .636 hitting, five total blocks, and 22 total attacks. The reigning ACC Defensive Player of the Year tied her season high in kills, along with surpassing her season high in total attacks.

Senior Jasmyn Martin also had a great performance with 11 kills and a team-high 30 total attacks. She was also responsible for four digs and four total blocks against the Panthers.

Sophomore Emma Clothier recorded a team-high six total blocks, along with putting up nine kills, three digs, two service aces, and 23 total attacks. This was Clothier's third game this season of multiple service aces and was two attacks shy of tying her season high of 25 total attacks set against Notre Dame earlier this month.

Sophomore Lauryn Burrows had a strong day as well, recording a career-high 18 digs. This was the most digs for Burrows since posting 14 digs against Troy on Feb. 26.

Redshirt senior Olivia Dailey led the team with 40 assists while also recording eight digs and four total attacks. Redshirt sophomore Morgan Chacon also put together eight kills and seven digs in her performance this evening.

Although FSU led the match in hitting percentage, .248-.227, and blocks, 12-6, they lacked the power that Pittsburgh had with attacks, 150-125, kills, 57-49, and digs, 51-48. The Noles also committed fewer attack errors, 23-18, than the Panthers, but committed more service errors, 8-7, and block errors, 3-1.

It was a slow start for the Seminoles to start the match, as they were down 6-0 in the first set. The Noles were able to pull within three points on a 5-2 run, but Pittsburgh was too strong to relinquish their lead and they won the set by six points.

The Noles found themselves in a similar deficit in the second set, but a 4-1 run, with the help of a service ace by sophomore Jessica Nunge, brought them back within one point. Later in the set, five straight points by FSU tied it all up, but a 5-1 run by Pitt ended their comeback to push the Panthers to a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third set, no lead was ever higher than two points until the Seminoles went on a 6-1 run to give them a 13-9 lead. FSU went on and took full control of the set after taking the lead with another run of seven straight points that included back-to-back service aces by Clothier.

After picking up their first set point of the match, the Noles built an early 4-1 lead in the fourth set before Pitt came back and tied it at eight apiece. The Panthers extended their lead to four with a 7-1 run of their own and ended the set with back-to-back points to win the match at 3-1.

No. 25 Seminoles Outlast UNC in Five.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Taking control midway through the fifth and final frame, No. 25 Florida State Volleyball rebounded with a big win (16-25, 25-12, 25-18, 21-25, 15-9) over North Carolina on Saturday at Fitzgerald Field House in Pittsburgh.

The Seminoles (11-5, 8-5) picked up a tough victory over the Tar Heels (10-5, 9-4), whom entered the weekend in fourth place in the competitive ACC. FSU has defeated top-tier ACC schools Notre Dame and North Carolina, both in five sets, this spring.

Florida State improves to 10-2 in the spring season, which has included the services of All-America middle blocker Taryn Knuth - who missed the fall season due to injury.

Sophomore middle blocker Emma Clothier tallied a career-best 19 kills in an impressive performance, adding three blocks, three digs and three aces while hitting .441. Four Seminoles tallied double-digit dig totals, led by redshirt sophomore Morgan Chacon's season-high 19 digs. Redshirt senior setter Olivia Dailey recorded 44 assists and 15 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.

Knuth came up big with nine kills and hit .467, while Jasmyn Martin added 10. Jessica Nunge also recorded nine kills along with nine digs.

Florida State finished the match on a critical 6-1 scoring run. The Seminoles were down 5-3 in the fifth set and then called a timeout. Following the break, FSU won four of the next five points headlined by three straight kills from Chacon to help take a 7-6 lead.

Both teams traded points to an 8-8 tie, and that's when the floodgates opened for FSU. A tone-setting block by Knuth and Martin gave FSU a 9-8 lead, and some critical serving from Caroline Golden led to FSU winning the next five points.

The match ended when Martin landed a kill from a tough angle cross-court, snapping FSU's two-match skid vs. the Tar Heels.

FSU covered aplenty on Saturday, holding UNC to just a .157 hitting percentage. The Seminoles hit .248 as a team, and also out-blocked UNC 10-8 overall.

Tar Heel freshman outside hitter Kaya Merkler led the opposition with 15 kills.

Seminoles Earn the Sweep Against Syracuse.

Written Ian Bolger, by FSU Sports Information intern

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State volleyball team (13-5, 9-5) grabbed their sixth sweep of the season against Syracuse (7-8, 7-8), 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-13), at Tully Gymnasium on Thursday evening.

The Seminoles remain undefeated against Syracuse in program history with their 10th straight victory in the series. It is also the sixth time that they have swept the Orange in straight sets.

The Noles have now won 12 of their past 14 matches over the spring season and are making a strong push to secure a bid to their 12th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

Redshirt sophomore Morgan Chacon had a fantastic match with a team-high 13 kills against Syracuse. She also put together 25 total attacks, four digs, and two services aces in her performance this evening.

Redshirt senior Olivia Dailey led the team in assists with 22, while also putting together seven digs. She also tied Chacon for the most service aces in the match with two total.

Senior Jasmyn Martin performed well with 11 kills and a .429 hitting percentage. She finished the match with 21 total attacks and four digs as well.

Sophomore Jessica Nunge recorded a team-high nine digs and senior Caroline Golden was close behind with eight. Nunge also had five kills and Golden had four assists in their win against the Orange.

FSU dominated Syracuse in kills by outscoring them, 43-32, as well as converting the better hitting percentage, .378-.136. The Noles also recorded more digs, 37-24, and service aces, 4-1, while committing fewer attack errors, 17-6, than the Orange.

The Seminoles came out strong to start the match with two service aces early in the first set by Dailey and Chacon. Five straight points extended the lead for the Noles and back-to-back attack errors by Syracuse gave FSU the win in the first set.

The Noles started the second set tied with the Orange at eight points each, but they picked up the pace with a 7-1 run to go ahead by five. Another long run of 9-1 by FSU, which included a second service ace by Chacon, put away the second set with ease.

FSU continued their dominance in the third set, jumping out to an early 11-2 lead behind an eight-point run that also included Dailey's second service ace of the game. The lead never dropped below seven points for the Noles in the match and Martin finished the match with a game-winning kill.

Florida State Takes Down Orange to Finish Regular Season.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Making a strong case for a bid to the 2021 NCAA Tournament, the Florida State Volleyball Team finished the regular season with its second straight sweep over Syracuse (25-13, 25-11, 25-13) on Friday night on 'Senior Night' at Tully Gym.

Prior to the match, four outstanding seniors were honored in Taryn Knuth, Jasmyn Martin, Olivia Dailey and Caroline Golden. All four had standout performances as the Seminoles (14-5, 10-5) dominated the Orange (7-9, 7-9) for the second consecutive match.

FSU finishes the regular season 8-2 in its last 10 matches.

"I'm so proud of this team," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "We had our backs against the wall from the fall season with Taryn out and not able to play with an injury. But we rallied this spring with Taryn leading us and everyone on the team stepping up big. We knew these were must-win matches this weekend and we played as well as we've played all year."

Knuth's final match at Tully Gym included another efficient performance with 12 kills and no errors in 18 attacks, hitting .667 in the match. Fittingly, she ended the match on a right-side slide and a cross-court kill to cap an amazing playing career on her home floor.

Martin, who came to FSU as a junior, added six kills and two digs. Dailey continued her strong season by recording 21 assists and six digs along with two service aces. Golden led all players with 15 digs as she keeps accelerating in her libero role.

Florida State began the fall season 1-3 without the services of Knuth, FSU's All-American who is the nation's active career leader in blocks and blocks per set. The Johnston, Iowa, native was injured during fall play, as her impact on the team in the spring has equated to FSU averaging nearly one more block per set.

Sophomore middle blocker Emma Clothier added nine kills, six blocks and a .533 hitting percentage. Clothier (fifth) and Knuth (first) rank in the Top 5 nationally in hitting percentage, forming one of the strongest middle blocker tandems in the country.

FSU hit .364 in the match while Syracuse attacked at just a .037 clip, getting 22 kills to 18 attack errors. FSU added 8.0 team blocks while the Orange mustered just two.
