Louis Ellis Groot Jr., 64, of Tallahassee died Saturday in Tallahassee.

A native of Arlington, Va., and resident of Tallahassee for 45 years, he was retired from the state Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services. He was the former president of the Tallahassee Quarterback Club, a former member of The Vestry, and a senior warden of Holy Comforter Episcopal Church.

He is survived by two sons, Louis E. Groot of St. Petersburg and Johnnie B. Groot of Castlerock, Colo.; a daughter, Gayle Ragsdale of Tallahassee; a brother, William Groot of Ashburn, Va.; five sisters, Emma Day of Waterford, Va., Elsie Davis of Palm Bay, Edna Mitchell of Rockville, Md., Louise Wood of Edgewater, Md., and Lillian Gwaltney of Fairfax Station, Va.; and six grandchildren.
