George Allen Ferguson Obituary. Posted by Abbey Funeral Home, Tallahassee, Fla. George A. Fergusson, 82, died January 4, 2023 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. He was born April 9, 1940 in West Palm Beach, Florida to George and Ruth Hill Fergusson. George was a Floridian. George lived pretty much his whole life in Florida and was part of it as much as it was part of him. After his graduation from Palm Beach High School, he attended Palm Beach Community College and then transferred to Florida State University where he was the third baseman for the FSU Seminoles during the early 1960s. He graduated with a degree in business and went on to become a stockbroker and certified financial planner in Delray Beach, Florida. He, his wife, and his son moved to Tallahassee 17 years ago. George was a family man who dearly loved his wife and was a wonderful father to Matt. He loved spending time with his family. George loved to take the backroads whenever he could on their road trip adventures. His family will always treasure the memories of their travels to Disney, to St. George Island, to the Driftwood Inn in Vero Beach, and up and down the eastern United States on his quest to learn more about and better capture the life of the ballplayer he wrote a book about. When Matt was a boy, George found great joy in in coaching him in baseball. He would attend every single one of his son's games and practices. He would oftentimes make signs or write mockup headlines about how proud he was of how Matt played in his games, posting it up for the whole house to see. George had a deep love for animals. George loved and was loved by all his pets through the years. He would often tell his son about his old cat, Rocky. He was the only person that Panther the cat liked. He loved his black labs, Comet, Locke, and Lily. George was a brilliant man who loved reading all types of books and writing stories. He wrote a book about Bobo Newsom, an American starting pitcher in Major League Baseball. George read The Great Gatsby every year. George played golf all his adult life and enjoyed being with his friends immensely so much so that his family accuses him of laughing and talking with his buddies more than actually playing golf. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Stephanie, son, Matt, and
his close friends, Bob and HB. |
