Wilbur Samuel "Sam" Griffis, age 89, passed away on June 1, 2023 after a short illness. He was born March 23, 1934 in Jacksonville, Florida to parents Brooks Samuel Griffis and Frances Byrd Griffis.

Sam grew up on the Northside of Jacksonville and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1953. He then went on to attend and play football at Florida State University. Upon graduating, Sam was employed by Railway Express. His work took him too many states and Juneau, Alaska.

He finally retired and made his forever home in Tallahassee. After a short time, he went to work with Jerald Lewis, Florida State Comptrollers office until retirement.

He was happy sitting around watching any kind of sports and always looked forward to the Florida State Football games. He invited all his friends to come to the house and party after the games.

He leaves behind many friends who loved him dearly. He never married always saying in his many jokes, "He was not afraid of marriage, just afraid of divorce" yet he was a good friend to many.
