Charles Harby Page Jr Obituary.

Published by findagrave.com.
"Buddy" Page was a football and track star at Fletcher High School in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, who signed to play football at Florida State University in 1953. He enlisted in the Army in September 1953 and after not appearing in any games for the Seminoles as a freshman, went on active duty and died of an accidental gunshot wound at Fort Hood Hospital while serving with the 8455 Military Police Company at Killeen Army Base.

Excerpts from The Cincinnati Post, September 16, 1957, page 21
A teen-age military policeman was shot to death intentionally by a fellow soldier while they both were guarding an atomic weapons stockpile in central Texas.

Charles Harby Page Jr., was inducted into the Army just after he was graduated from high school, went to Killeen Army Base, Killeen, Texas, and was assigned to patrol a "classified area."

Pfc. Page was riding a motorized patrol the night of July 4, three years ago.

Twice his vehicle came to the pillbox guarded by Pvt. Michael J. Selecky. Twice he called out, "Patrol 11." Twice Selecky let Page and his driver pass.

Around 9:30 p.m., Page's vehicle came by Selecky's post a third time. This time Selecky told Page to get out of the truck, as regulations provided.

"Aw, go to hell, Selecky, I'm tired and don't want to get out," Page replied.

Selecky had loaded his rifle, he called for Page's vehicle to halt. When it didn't, he fired.

Page was dead when the ambulance got there.

Selecky was convicted by court martial of "inlawfully killing" Page, given a bad conduct discharge and sentenced to a year at hard labor.
