Published by The Morning Union, Springfield, Mass. on November 15, 1985.

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Richard H. Fullam; developed real estate.
Richard H. Fullam, 47, of 1110 Amostown Road, a self-employed building contractor and real estate developer, died Tuesday after his 38-foot boat exploded during a power championship race off Key West, Fla.

A lifelong resident of West Springfield, he graduated from West Springfield High School and the University of Wyoming.

He played professional football for the Montreal Alouettes of Canada for several years until he was forced to retire due to injuries.

Fullam owned and developed office and apartment complexes on River, Elm, Westfield and Riverdale streets in West Springfield. He had purchased and renovated the closed McDonough and Old Tatham elementary schools into apartment complexes.

He and his business partner, Mike Poppa, 39, of Sarasota, Fla., who also died in the mishap while serving as throttleman on the boat "Still Crazy," recently had purchased Cougar Marine Corp. of North Miami, Fla. They had also begun building a condominium complex in Florida.

Fullam, who was named rookie of the year in 1983 by the American Powerboat Association, had placed in every championship race.

Merc-Cougar Corp. of Florida recently had taken over sponsorship of his championship powerboat races.

He was a member of the West Springfield Dante Club and American Powerboat Association.

He leaves his wife, the former Dorothea Spaeth; a son, Timothy R.; a daughter, Elizabeth M., both of West Springfield; his father, Ralph Fullam of West Springfield and a sister, Terry Hodgkins of Wells, Maine.
