John Howden Franks Obituary. Posted by findagrave.com, article probably clipped from the Florida-Times Union. PFC John H. Franks, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Franks of 32 Oakwood Rd., Jacksonville Beach, was killed in action in Viet Nam last Saturday morning, April 10. The young soldier was fatally injured while on a mission with his Military Police unit near the Laotian border in Viet Nam. Franks entered the Army on July 22, 1970, and was sent to Viet Nam in January, 1971. Just a few weeks prior to his death, the young soldier had been awarded the Bronze Star for his meritorious conduct above and beyond the call of duty. Franks was a star
athlete during his high school career at Fletcher, earning a scholarship in
baseball at Chipola Junior College and Florida State University. |
