Charles Hutchison Nye Obituary. Published in the Pensacola News Journal on Mar 17, 2021, page A8. On Saturday, March 13, 2021, Charles (Charlie) H. Nye, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and Christian, passed away in his home surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 83. Born in Philadelphia, PA to Rev. Charles & Myrtle Nye, who preceded him in death along with his sister, Virginia Nye Visser of Grand Rapids, MI. Charlie ran track, played football and basketball at Boone High School in Orlando, Florida. After graduating he attended Florida State on a duel football and track scholarship. There he met the love of his life, Rebecca Taylor. They were married May 30, 1959. After graduating with a degree in criminal justice, he worked for Pinkerton Detective Agency in Birmingham, New Orleans and New York City. Charlie resigned as the youngest VP to start his own security business. He established NYCO Security in 1972 in Pensacola, FL, where he built the business for 30 years before retiring in 2001. Charlie enjoyed many social and civic activities: President of Woodham High School Quarterback Club (Blue Tide of Titan Pride). Coach of the Ensley Chief's Football Team, winning numerous championships with "Nye's Guys." Coach of the Key Ford Lady Mustangs, having won two Women's Major Open National Championships (the Lady Stangs). Charlie is in the Boone High School Hall of Fame and enjoyed an outstanding track career at FSU. A Deacon and humble servant for East Brent Baptist Church. A Past President, Founding member and Paul Harris Fellow of Pensacola North Rotary. Enjoyed golfing with his buddies "but never on Sunday."
