Arthur Percy Floyd Obituary. Published by the Tallahassee Democrat on Jan 10, 2005, page 13. Maj. Arthur P. "A.P." Floyd, 75, who retired as an officer for the Florida Highway Patrol, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Judy R. Floyd. Born July 15, 1929, in Vicksburg, Miss., he moved with his family to Apalachicola as an infant and was raised there. He graduated from Chapman High School and followed that with three years of service in the U.S. Navy. A resident of Tallahassee for the past 35 years, he retired in 1982, after serving for more than 33 years with the Florida Highway Patrol, where he rose through the ranks of that of major. He was instrumental in setting up and overseeing the motor vehicle inspection program for the state of Florida. He was a member and former treasurer of the Tallahassee Lions Club and was a Melvin Jones Fellow of Lions International, their highest tribute. He was also a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, the Florida Association of State Troopers, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and was a 50-year member of the Apalachicola Lodge No. 76, F&AM. He was a former president, treasurer and member of the Board of Directors of the Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Credit Union and was an active member of East Hill Baptist Church. Other survivors include a son, Tracy L. Lewis (and wife Angie) of Hudson, Ohio; a daughter, Linda Avant of Tallahassee; two grandsons, Dale Avant of Tallahassee and Tyler L. Lewis of Hudson; three granddaughters, Lauren Avant of Tallahassee and Jaylen Lewis and Cassidy Lewis, both of Hudson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded
in death by his mother, Margaret Thomas Floyd; his father, Bert Floyd; two
brothers, Albert O. FLoyd and James T. Floyd, and a sister, Elsie F.
