Sean Gilmartin was one of the nation's top recruits out of Moorpark, Calif., and became one of college baseball's finest starting pitchers over his three-year career. Gilmartin posted a 12-3 record with a 3.49 ERA with 83 strikeouts in 15 starts over a remarkable rookie season. He was names to either Second or Third Team All-America teams by every publication and was a consensus First Team Freshman All-American. He was voted First Team All-ACC on FSU's 2009 team that finished 9th nationally in Baseball America's poll following a 45-18 season. His workhorse sophomore campaign saw him start a team-high 18 games on the 2010 team that reached the College World Series and finished the season ranked 6th after posting a 48-20 record. He got the start in the opening game of both the NCAA Super Regional and the College World Series. Gilmartin's junior year was one of the finest seasons in FSU and college baseball history. He earned First Team All-America and All-ACC honors, and posted a 12-2 record with a stunning 2.09 ERA. Selected in the first round of the MLB draft by the Atlanta Braves following his junior year, he played six years in the major leagues for the Mets,
Orioles and Rays. |
