An outstanding high school athlete from New Jersey, Ron Fraser was a relief pitcher for Coach Danny Litwhiler's Seminoles from 1954-57. After leaving FSU, Fraser became baseball coach at the
University of Miami. in his 30 years with the Hurricanes, he won over 1,270 games and posted a winning percentage of .747. The Hurricanes reached the College World Series six times and gained two
national championships under Fraser. He was the first Team USA coach when baseball became an Olympic medal sport in 1992. Florida State is proud to honor a former athlete who became a distinguished

Ron Fraser, nicknamed "The Wizard of College Baseball," passed away on Sunday, Jan. 20 at his home in Weston, Fla. at the age of 79. Fraser, a 1952 grad of NHS, retired from coaching in 1992 after 30 years as head baseball coach for the University of Miami. His career record was 1275-438, as he never had a losing season at the helm of the Hurricanes. He was inducted into seven halls of fame and was named coach of the year 24 times for his 20 consecutive tournament appearances and 12 College World Series appearances. He was also named Inernational Coach of the Year twice, the only American to do so, and was he head coach of the first official U.S. Olympic Baseball team in 1992. Fraser was also an author, a motivational speaker, a television color analyst and a consultant for the L.A. Dodgers. Fraser had Alzheimer's disease and was survived
by his wife, Karen, his daughters - Elizabeth Kraut, Lynda Poorman and Cynthia Beahn - and five grandchildren. |
