Schiessl, Miguel Conclude NCAA Individual Championship.
ORLANDO, Fla.- The Seminoles concluded its fall campaign at the NCAA Individual Championship as Erik Schiessl and Luis Felipe Miguel fell in the first rounds of singles and doubles.
On Tuesday, Miguel fell in straight sets to Kentucky's Eli Stephenson, 2-6, 0-6, in the opening round of the NCAA Singles Championship. Stephenson took an early surge that put Miguel in a 5-0 deficit and was halted by momentum in saving set points and earning his lone break of the match. Miguel eventually dropped the first set 2-6.
Miguel regrouped in the second frame, as Stephenson continued to apply pressure to break early and extend his lead. Despite Miguel's efforts to battle through multiple deciding points, he was unable to slow the Wildcat's rhythm and fell in his first collegiate NCAA championship.
In Wednesday's doubles action, Miguel and Schiessl fell to Ohio State's Nikita Filin and Brandon Carpico in a two-set match. The first set was tightly contested, with both teams trading games until Filin and Carpico edged out a 7-6 tiebreak victory. Miguel and Schiessl recollected in the second set, but a late break gave the Buckeyes a 7-5 win.

That was an unbelievable college tennis match, said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. I am so proud of Gabor, hanging in there while cramping in the third set. Saving a match point and then playing a terrific tiebreaker, going for his shots. We had an outstanding start to the day, winning the doubles point. Clinching it with Erik and Felipe, serving the match out to take the doubles point, after our freshman Gabor and Oren got the first double sets. Really pleased with Mohammad and Felipe getting off the court quickly, winning in two straight sets. It was a total team effort with a tough week in Arizona.
Florida State took the early 1-0 lead on a hard-fought doubles point. The new duo of Gabor Hornung and Oren Ezerzer defeated Andres Timini and Lorenzo Claverie at No. 3 doubles, 6-4. No. 43 Luis Felipe Miguel and Erik Schiessl earned their sixth win of the season with a 6-4 triumph over Henery Jefferson and Tanapatt Nirundorn to clinch the point.
In singles action, Alkotop made short work of Nirundorn, winning in straights (6-2, 6-2) at the No. 5 court position. Following Alkotop, Miguel picked up his own 6-1, 6-3 straight set victory in the No. 2 spot setting up Hornung for the deciding match. The newcomer wrapped up his grueling three-set battle on court six. The Hungary native won the first set 6-1, before Timini found leverage in the second set (6-1). After reaching a 5-5 deadlock, Hornung won two straight games (7-5) to secure the final singles point for the Seminoles.
