Second-Half Surge Powers No. 4 FSU in Season Opener.
DeLAND, Fla. - The No. 4 Florida State soccer team began its national championship defense with a 4-0 win at Stetson on Thursday night in DeLand, Florida.
The Seminoles (1-0-0) scored all four goals in the second half, including the first three in just under 10 minutes, to secure the in-state win over the Hatters (0-1-0) at the Athletic Training Center.
With the victory, FSU extended its unbeaten streak to 34 in regular-season non-conference games, a stretch that began in the middle of the 2019 non-conference season.
Florida State's first three goals, and all three assists in the contest, were recorded by newcomers. Junior midfielder Sam Erbach netted the season's first goal in the 58th minute and senior forward Tanner Strickland doubled the score with a penalty kick goal in the 66th minute. Just under two minutes later, senior midfielder Joelle Jung made it 3-0.
Junior midfielder Peyton McGovern scored her first career goal in the 82nd minute for the 4-0 final.
Netting their first goals at Florida State in their debut games, Erbach's goal is the 30th of her career, and eighth game winner. Strickland scored her fourth career goal and Jung got her ninth. Strickland also had an assist to notch her third career three-point game.
The Seminoles won their third consecutive season-opening contest and are unbeaten in season openers since 2008. FSU is 4-0-1 when opening the year as defending national champions. Four of those five openers that followed an NCAA title have been on the road, with 2019 the lone home exception.
Thursday night's win is Florida State's 10th in the in-state series vs. Stetson. Improving to 10-0-0 all-time vs. SU, FSU is 3-0-0 in DeLand, along with wins in 1998 and 2009. All but one game has been a Seminole shutout, while the 4-0 triumph is the sixth time the Garnet and Gold have scored at least four goals. It matches FSU's largest margin of victory on the road in the series.
Florida State out-shot Stetson 18-2 with a 13-2 advantage in shots on goal. Corner kicks were 2-1 to the visitors, and the Hatters had 10 fouls to the Seminoles' seven.
Junior forward Wrianna Hudson had a game-high four shots, all on goal. Erbach and McGovern both had two shots, both on goal, and Jung also had two shots in the win. Sophomore goalkeeper Kate Ockene stopped both shots she faced to earn her sixth career clean sheet, all in the last eight games dating back to the end of the 2025 season.
Twenty-two players saw action in the win, all but three for at least 36 minutes and no one except Ockene for more than 62.
Stetson's goalkeeper made nine saves. Six came in the first half to keep it a goalless game through the first 57-plus minutes.
Florida State had several good chances in the opening 15 minutes, as freshman forward Ryder Ajeto had a shot saved at the far post in the 11th minute and Wrianna Hudson had a pair of chances stopped four minutes later. Hudson beat a defender for the first shot and the next was from the top of the six off a pass from sophomore midfielder Nyanya Touray.
Two minutes later, freshman defender Bridget Mutipula made a great tackle inside the penalty area to prevent Stetson's first shot of the game.
Hudson had another shot that was stopped in the 25th minute, and the Hatter keeper made two more saves in the 33rd minute, first off the foot of senior forward Nyah Rose and the second from Erbach, who got to the rebound.
Ockene's first save came in the final seconds of the first half to preserve the goalless game after 45 minutes.
FSU held a 7-1 advantage in shots and six shots on goal to SU's one in the first half. Both teams earned a corner kick and had four fouls.
The Seminoles scored their first goal of 2026 at 57:56 off the foot of Erbach. The visitors had possession in the penalty area but could not get a clean shot off before Stetson attempted to clear. FSU regained possession at the corner of the 18-yard box near the end line. Senior defender Olivia Page centered the ball to Erbach to the left of the penalty spot, where she fired a shot past the keeper to the far post for the 1-0 lead.
Strickland converted a penalty kick at 65:39 to double the lead. She was the one who drew the foul at the edge of the box, and she then buried the penalty.
Less than two minutes later, at 67:33, Jung found the back of the net to turn the lead to 3-0. Strickland passed the ball to senior midfielder Ashley Henderson at the top of the penalty arc, who found Jung inside the 18 near the left corner of the goal box. Jung then scored her first as a Seminole to the far post.
McGovern made it 4-0 at 81:45 from distance. She got the ball just outside the center circle, dribbled to the top of the penalty arc and fired a 25-yard shot to the left post under the arms of a diving Stetson keeper.
As they all got their first FSU assists, Page posted the fifth of her career and Henderson's was her 14th. Strickland posted her 13th to complete the three-point night.
In the second half, FSU out-shot SU 11-1 with a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal. The visitors had the only corner of the final 45 minutes and fouls were 6-3 to Stetson.

No. 4 FSU Completes Opening-Weekend Road Sweep.
MIAMI, Fla. - The No. 4 Florida State soccer team defeated FIU 2-0 on Sunday evening in Miami to finish a perfect season-opening roadtrip.
For the second consecutive game to begin the year, the Seminoles (2-0-0) scored all their goals in the second half of a shutout win. Sunday's victory at Leyva Family Field at FIU Soccer Stadium came after a 4-0 win at Stetson on Thursday to open the campaign.
FSU extended its unbeaten streak to 35 in regular-season non-conference games, a stretch that began in the middle of the 2019 non-conference season. Additionally, dating back to last year's national-title run, Florida State has won seven in a row away from home, the second-longest streak in school history, and the Seminoles have won eight consecutive games overall with a 12-game unbeaten streak, both tied for 10th-longest all-time. The team's four-game shutout streak also is tied for 10th in the school record books.
Junior forward Wrianna Hudson scored the game's first goal, and the eventual game-winner, in the 56th minute. Just 62 seconds later, sophomore midfielder Nyanya Touray doubled the score with a long strike from outside the box.
Both their first goals of the season, it was Hudson's 25th career goal and her fourth in the last five games. It's her ninth game-winning score. Touray netted the third goal of her career. Junior forward Anaiyah Robinson assisted on Hudson's goal for her second career assist and first point as a Seminole.
With the win, FSU improves to 8-0-0 all-time vs. FIU, including 3-0-0 on the road. The last four games, and six of eight, have been clean sheets, including a similar 2-0 score a season ago in Tallahassee.
Florida State out-shot the Panthers (0-1-1) 12-10 and had an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. The visitors had three corner kicks and did not allow one, while FSU had 14 fouls and FIU 19. Each team was shown one yellow card.
Robinson led all players with five shots and added three shots on goal. Hudson, coming off the bench, had four shots, all on frame. Junior goalkeeper Fernanda Mayrink made her Seminole debut and saved all three shots she faced for her ninth career shutout. FIU's keeper made six saves.
The first three shots for FSU came off the foot of Robinson within the opening nine minutes, including two in the first three. However, two chances were saved and another was blocked. Robinson had another shot stopped in the 16th minute as the offensive pressure continued.
Freshman forward Ryder Ajeto had a great opportunity to the far post, but her shot went just wide in the 28th minute, less than a minute after junior midfielder Shaneil Buckley sent a shot high.
Hudson finished off the half with her first shot, which was saved with five minutes left.
Shots were 7-4 and shots on goal were 4-0 in the first half, both to Florida State. FSU earned both corner kicks in the opening frame.
Mayrink's first save came in the 48th minute to keep it a goalless game.
The Seminoles took a 1-0 lead at 55:32 thanks to Hudson. Her goal came one minute after she had a shot saved from near the penalty spot.
Hudson's goal began with a centering ball into the box, deflected by Hudson to Robinson at the top of the 18. Robinson then passed back to Hudson to the right of the penalty spot, and Hudson finished to the far post.
Just 62 seconds later, at 56:34, Touray doubled the lead to 2-0. FIU cleared the ball out of the corner of the 18-yard box to Touray. From 25 yards out, Touray immediately fired on goal, a laser to the far corner of the net above the leaping Panther keeper.
Three minutes later, Hudson had a chance saved, while FIU sent a shot off target. The home side had another in the 66th minute and one more in the 74th that was forced wide.
Mayrink's second and save of the contest came in the 84th minute and she made another in the 88th to preserve the shutout.
FIU had a 6-5 advantage in shots in the final 45 minutes, though FSU had the 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Florida State had the only corner kick.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 3 Florida State soccer team recorded its third consecutive shutout to begin the season with a 3-0 win over Florida Atlantic on Thursday night at the Seminole Soccer Complex.
The Seminoles (3-0-0) scored 10 minutes into the game and added two goals in the second half while holding the Owls (0-2-1) to two shots, one on goal.

Strickland's goal is the fifth of her four-year career along with it being her second in two games in the Garnet and Gold.
Junior forward Anaiyah Robinson and junior midfielder Sam Erbach assisted on Strickland's goal, while senior midfielder Ashley Henderson and Erbach got the assists on Ajeto's goal. All three now have a team-high-tying two assists on the season, as Robinson posted the 29th of her career, Erbach her 22nd and 23rd and Henderson her 15th.
FSU out-shot FAU 18-2 with a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Seminoles earned 10 corner kicks and did not allow one. Six came in the first half after entering the game with five total in the first two games of the year. Fouls were six for the Owls and four for Florida State.
Erbach led the team with five shots and was one of seven players with a shot on goal. Ockene did not have to make a save in the game and the defense cleared a ball off the line. FAU's keeper stopped five shots.
Twenty players appeared in the game for Florida State, all for at least 36 minutes and just two for more than 56 minutes besides Ockene's 90.
The Seminoles improved to 5-0-0 all-time against Florida Atlantic and 2-0-0 at home. Four of the five contests have been FSU shutouts as FAU came to Tallahassee for the first time since 2003.
Strickland put Florida State ahead early with a goal at 10:05. Erbach received the ball on the near sideline from a pass inside the center circle. She paused before sending a long ball towards the endline, where a racing Robinson reached it just before it went out of play and delivered a cross to the far post. The ball met Strickland on a perfectly-timed run, and she headed it in from three yards out.
Following the goal, the home side continued to earn chances thanks to a trio of corners, but two saves helped keep the score 1-0. Late in the half, Erbach forced another save.
With the 1-0 halftime lead, FSU had a 10-1 advantage in shots, five going on frame. The team earned six corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes.
Freshman defender Bridget Mutipula cleared a ball off the line in the 62nd minute to preserve the shutout, and the lead, just over a minute before Ajeto made it 2-0.
At 63:18, Ajeto netted her first collegiate goal. Henderson to Erbach outside the 18, and back to Henderson as she entered the far corner of the box, set up the goal. Henderson then centered the ball to Ajeto, who created space to shoot around a defender. The ball deflected off the keeper and in for the 2-0 advantage.
The lead became 3-0 at 82:48 on an own goal. The score followed a Seminole corner kick.
FSU had eight shots to FAU's one in the final 45 minutes, with a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Seminoles posted four corners.

Florida State Suffers Season's First Loss.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The No. 3 Florida State soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, 3-1 at Florida on Sunday afternoon in Gainesville, Florida.
Playing their third road game in the first two weeks of the year, the Seminoles (3-1-0) allowed their first goals of 2026 in the defeat. The Gators (2-1-0) scored once in the first half and twice in the second. FSU's lone goal was a second-half score by freshman forward Ryder Ajeto, the second goal of her career and second in as many games.
The loss snaps a 36-game unbeaten streak in regular-season non-conference games, a stretch that began in the middle of the 2019 non-conference slate. Additionally, Florida State's nine-game win streak and 13-game unbeaten streak came to an end, runs that were tied for No. 7 and No. 9 in school history, respectively. A five-game shutout streak, fourth-most all-time, also was snapped.
Florida State was out-shot 14-8, as the home side had an 8-5 advantage in shots on target. FSU had six corner kicks to UF's five, and fouls were 14-13 for Florida.
Ajeto was one of three players with two shots and she led the team with two shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Kate Ockene made five saves, more than double her season total entering the match.
With the defeat, FSU is 18-14-0 all-time vs. Florida and 9-8-0 on the road. An eight-game win streak is snapped, the longest streak by either team in the rivalry.
Ockene's first save came in the 11th minute, shortly before the Seminoles' first shot, a free kick opportunity taken by sophomore midfielder Nyanya Touray that was high. Junior midfielder Sam Erbach forced another save just over three minutes later.
Florida took a 1-0 lead at 21:58, almost two minutes after Ockene's second save of the game.
Junior midfielder Shaneil Buckley had a chance stopped on a breakaway in the 24th minute.
Ockene made her third save in the 35th minute on a shot from distance, and she stopped another two minutes later, punching away a free kick.
FSU ended the half with its third corner, but the visitors could not get a chance on goal.
Early in the second half, junior forward Wrianna Hudson and Touray had back-to-back chances, but Hudson's shot was blocked and Touray, who got the rebound, sent a shot that was saved.
The defense helped prevent a trio of shots on target in the 60th minute, with two blocks before forcing a shot off frame.
Florida made it 2-0 at 61:49, and it was 3-0 at 78:46.
Ajeto cut into the deficit at 82:27, scoring her second career goal to make it a 3-1 game. Her goal came three minutes after her first opportunity on goal was saved.
The Seminoles applied pressure in the final seven-plus minutes, but could not get any closer.
