Latson, Timpson Earn All-ACC First Team Honors.

March 5, 2024

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State Women's Basketball student-athletes Ta'Niya Latson and Makayla Timpson were each named to the All-ACC First Team, announced on Tuesday on ACC PM.

Timpson added to her awards list by also being selected to the ACC All-Defensive Team. Timpson and Latson are the first set of FSU teammates to be named to the All-ACC First Team in the same year since Kiah Gillespie and Nicki Ekhomu in 2020.

Timpson is also just the fourth Seminole to make the All-ACC First Team and All-Defensive Team in the same year, joining Jacinta Monroe, Natasha Howard and Morgan Jones. It is Timpson's second consecutive ACC All-Defensive Team honor after making the team last year.

The Edison, Ga., native has enjoyed a career year in helping guide the Seminoles to a second straight 12-win season in ACC play. Timpson leads the conference in field goal percentage (57.7 percent) and blocked shots (81), leading the next closest player in the ACC by 21 blocks.

Timpson is closing in on two single-season records at FSU. Her 15 double-doubles this season tie Natasha Howard's single-season mark set back in the 2013-14 season, with Timpson's next one being the record breaker. She also has 81 blocked shots this year, which is four away from surpassing Monroe's lofty mark of 84 set in the 2008-09 year.

Latson has produced a remarkable sophomore season, tying for the ACC lead with six 30-point games in conference play. The Miami, Fla., native is averaging 21.4 points, shooting 43.9 percent overall, picking up 4.2 rebounds per game as well as 4.4 assists per game.

Latson repeats as a first-team selection after elevating her production in ACC play, where she averaged 22.7 points per game and was fifth in the league with 4.9 assists per game. She had a signature stretch of three consecutive 30-point games vs. Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and NC State early in conference play.

Seminoles Race Past Charleston Southern in Season Opener.

By Edward Klinsport

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 18 Florida State Women's Basketball team tipped off their 52nd season the right way with a 99-63 win against Charleston Southern on Monday night at the Tucker Center. FSU has now won 29 of the last 30 season openers and is 42-10 all-time in season-opening games.

O'Mariah Gordon led all scorers with 21 points on 7-of-18 shooting from the floor. It marks the second time Gordon has scored 20+ points in a game in her career, with the last coming from a 108-51 FSU win vs Texas Southern in 2022 where Gordon scored a career-best 23.

Florida State had five players reach double-figure scoring, including 18 by Makayla Timpson, 15 from Amaya Bonner, 14 from Alexis Tucker and 10 by Sara Bejedi.

Brianna Turnage grabbed eight rebounds to lead a defensive effort that held Charleston Southern to 34.5 percent shooting and forced 30 turnovers.

FSU raced out to a 29-13 lead in the first quarter with Gordon scoring eight points. She was 6-of-7 from the line in addition to hitting one from the floor in the opening frame.

The Seminoles outscored Charleston Southern 29-12 in the second quarter to take a 58-25 lead into halftime.

Tucker scored six in the second quarter and her 12 points led the Noles at the half. Gordon had 11 points and Bonner scored five of her first-half 11 points in the second quarter.

The Seminoles made the most of CSU's turnovers, scoring 15 of their first-half points off turnovers.

The Seminoles shot 49 percent from the field (19-of-39) and 54 percent from beyond the arc nailing 7-of-13 as it entered halftime.

Florida State went on to outscore Charleston Southern 23-21 in the third quarter with Gordon leading all scorers with 19 after three quarters and Tucker recording 14.

No. 18 Women's Hoops Delivers Dramatic 92-91 Win over No. 11 Tennessee.

By Ethan Salzberg

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - No. 18 Florida State Women's Basketball delivered the defensive stop it needed to get a thrilling 92-91 win over 11th-ranked Tennessee in front of a frenzied Tucker Center on Thursday night.

After FSU's Alexis Tucker sank a free throw to give the Seminoles (2-0) a 92-91 lead with 24 seconds left, the Lady Volunteers came down the floor searching for a game-winning score. Star forward Rickea Jackson got the ball at the top of the key and spun around for a mid-range jumper that rimmed out. Tennessee's Jewel Spear got the offensive rebound but didn't get the put-back off in time to send FSU running toward half court with a win.

In what was an outstanding offensive showcase, FSU was able to get two strong defensive possessions to finish the game and deliver the program's 33rd AP Top 15 win. For Head Coach Brooke Wyckoff, she earns her fourth AP Top 15 victory in just over two seasons of work.

"I'm just so proud of the team," Wyckoff said. "That was an amazing game. This is why we play the game - for moments like this and for challenges like this. For our fans and for women's college basketball in general, it was a fantastic night against a fantastic team. I'm so proud of how we battled. When things got tough, we hung in there and we came up with a win. I'm really happy with our performance tonight."

O'Mariah Gordon led the team at the half with 16 points. Gordon finished 7-of-10 from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the arc with a team-high 22 points. She scored 20+ points for the second straight game and the third time in her career.

Alexis Tucker tallied 17 points and was 4-of-5 from three, including three straight in the first quarter. Tucker also accounted for seven rebounds and a steal in a physical game, and had the shot of the night with her made free throw to give FSU the lead for good.

Amaya Bonner tied the game at 91 with 52 seconds on the clock, proving clutch down the stretch with 11 fourth-quarter points. She finished 6-of-8 on field goals and 4-of-5 from three, totaling 16 points.

The Seminoles' offense shot 59.1 percent from three, totaling 13 buckets from beyond the arc. Overall the team shot 46.6 percent from the field. FSU made 13 3-point field goals.

Florida State had five players score double-digit points. Gordon (22), Ta'Niya Latson with 20, Tucker (17), Bonner (16), and Makayla Timpson with 10.

In the first quarter, Florida State jumped out to a 31-16 lead that included a 17-6 run and three straight three-pointers.

To start the second quarter Tennessee went on a 10-2 run, closing the gap to a four-point game making it 36-32. From there on out it was back and forth with the Seminoles taking an eight-point, 54-46 advantage into halftime.

In the third quarter, Tennessee went on a 22-5 run. FSU closed out the frame with a pair of free throws and a bucket to make it a two-point game going into the final ten minutes.

Kicking off the fourth quarter Latson tied up the game at 74. Nearly seven minutes later Bonner made a three to tie the game at 86 with 3:22 left. Tennessee then called a timeout with 1:22 up one after snagging an offensive board off a missed three. Down three at the one-minute mark, Bonner made a three to tie the game. Alexis Tucker was fouled with 24.9 left on a defensive rebound and made the game-winning free throw to clinch the game for the Seminoles.

Latson Takes Over as No. 12 Noles Defeat Gators.

By Stephen Stone

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Sophomore guard Ta'Niya Latson poured in 17 of her career-high 35 points in the fourth quarter to lead No. 12 Florida State Women's Basketball to a 79-75 rivalry win at Florida on Friday night at Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.

Latson nearly out-scored the Gators (3-1) in the fourth quarter by herself, going 5-of-5 from the floor in the final period, 7-of-7 from the charity stripe and helping the Seminoles (3-0) out-score UF 30-19. Latson's clutch play turned around a 56-49 deficit entering the fourth.

Latson's 35 points are the most by a Seminole since Morgan Jones had 36 in a double-overtime win over Clemson on Jan. 21, 2021. Latson eclipsed her previous career high of 34 points scored at Kent State last year in just her second career game played.

A 3-point field goal by Florida with 8:47 left put the Gators ahead 61-53, but FSU refused to quit. A clutch 3-point field goal from the corner by O'Mariah Gordon tied the game at 70-70 with 2:14 remaining. Latson then provided the go-ahead bucket for good on a fast-break left-handed layup, putting the Seminoles ahead 72-70 with 1:51 remaining.

Florida State's defense delivered crucial stops down the stretch of the game. Following Latson's big bucket, Makayla Timpson delivered her third block, followed by another steal by Gordon on UF's next possession to give FSU two enormous defensive stops.

Clinging to a 72-71 lead with 44 seconds remaining, Latson hit another big jumper to give FSU a bit more breathing room at 74-71. UF responded with a layup by Ra Shaya Kyle on an out-of-bounds play, but Latson came back with two more free throws after getting fouled to make it 76-73 with 15 seconds left. She sealed the game with six seconds remaining on two more free throws.

Latson's 26 Not Enough vs. No. 2 UCLA.

UNCASVILLE, Conn. - Lauren Betts had 22 points and 18 rebounds to help No. 2 UCLA beat 20th-ranked Florida State 95-78 on Sunday at the Hall of Fame Women's Showcase.

Charisma Osborne and Angela Dugalic added 16 points each for the balanced Bruins (8-0), who had five players score in double figures. UCLA started the game scoring 13 of the opening 15 points and led 20-5 as Florida State made just one of its first 14 shots.

Betts had six quick points as the Seminoles had little answer for the sophomore center's 6-foot-7 frame. Florida State finally got going at the end of the quarter behind Carla Viegas' five points to trail 26-17 after one.

Florida State (7-3) hung around by hitting 3-pointers and only trailed 47-37 before the Bruins scored seven straight to go into the half up 54-40. Betts had 18 points at half, hitting nine of her 10 shots.

The Seminoles collapsed inside against Betts in the second half and got within 64-55 late in the third quarter before the Bruins scored 10 straight to put the game away.

Ta'Niya Latson scored 26 to lead the Seminoles while Sara Bejedi added 19.

While the two teams had never played before Sunday, they do have a connection as UCLA coach Cori Close served as Florida State's associate head coach from 2004-11 before getting the job with the Bruins.

The Seminoles were looking to tie their highest-ranked win in program history against UCLA. The Seminoles defeated No. 2 Duke at home, 80-74, on Feb. 4, 2004, and also defeated No. 2 Louisville on the road, 50-49, on Jan. 21, 2018.

Home away from home

This is Florida State's fourth trip to Mohegan Sun over the past eight seasons. The Seminoles played UConn twice (2015 and 2022) and also faced Michigan (2019) in the home of the WNBA's Connecticut Sun. Florida State coach Brooke Wyckoff spent three seasons playing for the Sun from 2003-05.

Strong Second Quarter Ignites No. 22 Noles Over Drexel.

By Stephen Stone

PHILADEPHIA, Pa. - No. 22 Florida State Women's Basketball led with its defense on Sunday afternoon, holding Drexel to just seven points in a second quarter that sparked the Seminoles to a 76-56 win at Drexel's Athletic Center.

Sophomore Ta'Niya Latson led the Seminoles (8-3) with 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting and went 7-of-9 from the free throw line, her second-most attempts of the season. FSU did not rely on the 3, instead churning out 46 points in the paint in stark contrast to Drexel's 17 3-point field goal attempts.

Latson heated up in the third, scoring nine of her 22 points in the quarter as FSU came out hot after halftime and out-scored the Dragons (4-4), 21-16, in the third frame.

Florida State had four players in double figures, as junior guard O'Mariah Gordon totaled 14 points along with seven assists to just one turnover in 29 minutes played. Fifth-year senior Sara Bejedi had 11 points and three assists, and junior forward Makayala Timpson added 10 points with six rebounds.

Off the bench, sophomore Brianna Turnage aided the Seminoles with nine boards, while junior forward Sakyia White had six points and five rebounds.

Florida State went 15-of-18 from the free throw line, while Drexel went 9-of-9. FSU generated 19 fast-break points and only had seven turnovers to 15 assists.

FSU's game-changing seven points allowed in the second quarter was its best defensive quarter of the season, and marked the fourth time this year that the Seminoles allowed single-digit points in a quarter.

Drexel's Brooke Mullin led the Dragons with 11 points.

No. 21 Women's Hoops Goes on Scoring Outburst vs. Alabama State.

By Edward Klinsport

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 21 Florida State Women's Basketball team (9-3) raced past Alabama State (0-10) in a 110-45 win as the team celebrated Holiday Hoops on Wednesday night at the Tucker Center.

The Seminoles nearly made history, as they were four points shy of matching a 32-year long record of points scored in a game. The record of 114 points has stood since February 6, 1991, when Florida State defeated Stetson.

FSU has reached at least 110 points in consecutive years after defeating Bethune-Cookman last season, 113-50.

Ta'Niya Latson led the Noles in scoring with 23 points, marking her 24th career 20-point game. She went 10-of-11 from the free throw line and drew six fouls.

The Seminoles had plenty of players with double-figure scoring including Latson scoring 23, Alexis Tucker 15, Sara Bejedi 15, Makayla Timpson 14, Brianna Turnage 11, and O'Mariah Gordon 10. It marked the first time this season FSU had six players reach double digits.

Timpson grabbed eight rebounds to lead a shutdown defensive effort that held Alabama State to 25 percent shooting (17-of-69) and forced 18 turnovers.

FSU raced out of the gates as they started off with a 17-0 run to begin the game. They went on to outscore the Hornets 34-9 in the first, with Latson leading all scorers with 11 points. It tied FSU's season high for points in a quarter and was the fourth time this season the Seminoles reached 30+ in a quarter.

The Seminoles continued to dominate to round out the first half, as they outscored Alabama State 26-9 during the second quarter to bring the first half score to 60-18. Latson once again led the quarter in scoring, bringing her first-half total to 18.

Florida State made the most of the Hornets' turnovers, scoring 14 of their first half points off turnovers. The team was also on a hot streak from the foul line, shooting a near perfect 93 percent (14-of-15) from the charity stripe.

The Noles carried over their first-half success into the second, as they went onto outscore Alabama State 24-9 in the third quarter to bring the score to 84-27. Tucker led the Noles in scoring during the third with 10 points. FSU finished the fourth quarter scoring 26 points.

Latson Pours in 30 as No. 22 Noles Defeat Georgia Tech in ACC Opener.

By Edward Kllinsport

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Sophomore standout Ta'Niya Latson delivered her ninth 30-point performance of her career to lead the hot-shooting and 22nd-ranked Seminoles past Georgia Tech, 95-80, in an entertaining ACC opener on Friday at the Tucker Center.

In three games played against Georgia Tech, Latson has recorded three 30-point performances. On Friday, she scored exactly 30 points on 12-of-24 shooting while adding five assists and four rebounds.

Latson had plenty of help as well, as junior forward Makayla Timpson had her 19th career double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds to move into a tie for 10th on the FSU career list with Adut Bulgak (2014-16). Timpson's 14 boards tie a career high.

Junior guard O'Mariah Gordon was also efficient with 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting, showing off her strong mid-range game while also getting to the bucket consistently. Gordon added seven assists.

FSU (10-3, 1-0) out-scored a talented Georgia Tech (9-4, 0-1) team in the second half, 52-38, after clinging to a 43-42 lead at the break.

The Seminoles' racked up 54 points in the paint against the Yellow Jackets, marking a season high. In the second half, FSU shot 52.5 percent and went 50.6 percent (39-of-77) from the floor overall. Georgia Tech shot 43.8 percent (32-of-73) for the game. FSU also edge Georgia Tech on the glass at 41-39.

The first quarter was a great showcase as both teams battled back and forth for the lead, but ultimately Florida State stayed ahead with a score of 23-21 at the end of the first quarter. Latson and Gordon both had six points at the end of the first to lead all scorers to that point.

The second quarter was much like the first, with both teams vying for the lead. However, the Seminoles continued to stay ahead coming out the first half with a first half score of 43-42. Latson once again led the quarter in scoring for the Noles, bringing her first-half total to 14, eight of which came in the second quarter.

The Noles found a good rhythm in the third quarter as they went on to outscore the Yellow Jackets 26-17 to bring the score to 69-59. Latson led the Noles in scoring during the third with nine points, bringing her total to 23. A key 9-0 run helped FSU break away.

FSU would out-score Georgia Tech 26-21 in a fourth quarter where Timpson took over with nine points and six rebounds.

Latson Repeats 30-Point Game in Win over Wake Forest.

By Edward Klinsport

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Sophomore guard Ta'Niya Latson recorded a 30-point performance for the second straight game on Sunday to lead No. 22 Florida State Women's Basketball past Wake Forest, 73-61, at the Tucker Center.

After dropping 30 just two days ago in the Seminoles' (11-3, 2-0) ACC-opening win vs. Georgia Tech, Latson repeated her performance against a physical Demon Deacons (4-9, 0-1) squad. The Miami, Fla., native had 20 of her 30 points in the second half, and went 10-of-20 from the floor, 9-of-9 from the free throw line and drew five fouls overall.

Junior forward Makayla Timpson added her second straight double-double, scoring 11 points along with 12 rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Timpson has 20 career double-doubles and seven this season.

Wake Forest cut the FSU lead to just 47-41 through three quarters, but the Seminoles once again turned up their play in the fourth. FSU out-scored Wake Forest, 26-20, in the final period, with Latson scoring 15 fourth-quarter points and going 7-of-7 from the line.

Junior guard O'Mariah Gordon added 12 points with four rebounds and three assists.

FSU out-rebounded Wake Forest 39-35, as sophomore Brianna Turnage assisting on the glass with six rebounds.

The first quarter was a battle fought between the two teams for every basket, but ultimately Wake Forest managed to stay one point ahead to bring the score to 16-15. On the Seminoles' side, Gordon led the team in scoring with six points going 3-of-4 on field goals and bringing in two rebounds in the first.

The second quarter matched the intensity of the first. However, FSU found its rhythm and forced its way ahead out-scoring the Demon Deacons 21-10 in the second for a first half score of 36-26. Latson led all scorers in the first half with 10, six of which came in the second quarter.

The Noles built on their success in the first half and used it to stay ahead in the third quarter for a score of 47-41. Latson once again led her team in scoring during the third quarter adding five points to her total, bringing her game total to 15 before scoring another 15 points in the fourth.

North Carolina State 88, Florida State 80
01/04/2024, OT, Raleigh, N.C.

From the FSU Website, seminoles.com.

No. 22 Florida State falls at No. 3 NC State in Overtime.

RALEIGH, N.C. - North Carolina State's River Baldwin scored 21 points before leaving with an injury and the third-ranked Wolfpack pulled out an 88-80 overtime win over No. 22 Florida State on Thursday night.

Aziaha James had 18 points, Zoe Brooks scored 15 and Saniya Rivers posted 12 points for the Wolfpack (14-0, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), who defeated a Top 25 team for the third time this season. N.C. State made only three 3-point baskets, but two came in overtime from Hayes and James.

Ta'Niya Latson poured in 30 points for the third game in a row for Florida State (11-4, 2-1), which overcame a 12-point, fourth-quarter deficit. O'Mariah Gordon had 15 points and Makayla Timpson added 13.

N.C. State's 63-51 lead from early in the fourth quarter shrunk to 67-64 on Gordon's 3-pointer. The second of Latson's back-to-back drives for baskets made it 72-70, and her two free throws with 1:01 left tied it.

James scored on a move into the lane and Latson matched it. Neither team got a shot to the rim on its final possessions of regulation, which ended at 74-all.

Baldwin had drawn five offensive fouls before falling to the floor with 42 seconds to play in the third quarter. The fifth-year senior center was assisted off the court and didn't return. Her ACC high for points had been 12 in the Wolfpack's previous game at Virginia.

N.C. State led 59-51 entering the fourth quarter after a couple of huge third-quarter momentum swings.

Florida State opened the second half on an 11-2 run to grab a 45-42 lead. The Wolfpack responded, with Collins draining a 3 and Brooks scoring in transition to push N.C. State to a 54-48 edge.

Baldwin, in her second N.C. State season after three years with the Seminoles, shot 8 for 11 in the first half. She was averaging 10.5 points per game entering the game.

The Wolfpack used 52.9% first-half shooting from the field to lead 40-34 despite going without a 3-point basket. Baldwin had 12 of N.C. State's first 20 points.

Latson, who scored 30 points in each of Florida State's two previous games, was 3-for-11 from the field in the opening half.

Florida State's most recent win over a top 5 team came in February 2021 against then-No. 3 Louisville.

Big Picture

Florida State: The Seminoles had a strong fourth quarter and the last shot in regulation. They weren't able to carry that momentum to overtime, falling for the first time in three true road games this season.

N.C. State: The Wolfpack got into the lane enough to create offensive chances after Baldwin departed. There were enough shaky stretches for concern, but challenges like this will come in conference play.

No. 21 Noles Gut Out 70-62 Win over 20th-ranked North Carolina.

By Jacob Swift

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The 21st-ranked Florida State Women's Basketball team gutted out a physical 70-62 win over No. 20 North Carolina on Thursday night, getting its second AP Top 25 win of the season at the Tucker Center.

The leading scorers of the contest featured FSU's Sara Bejedi and UNC's Deja Kelly each scoring 23 points. FSU's Makayla Timpson led all players in rebounds with 14, while Ta'Niya Latson tacked on five assists. Timpson recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 11 points and 14 boards.

Bejedi put together her fifth career 20-point game on Thursday, tying her career high set last game with five 3-point field goals made. She added six rebounds and three assists.

"It was another amazing ACC game. I love this time of year," FSU Head Coach Brooke Wyckoff said. "(I love) the opponents we get to face night in and night out - it's really fun to do it at home and battle it out for a great win. Sara Bejedi stepped up and put the team on her back today and did everything we needed to get this win. I'm very proud of her as well."

FSU made 10 three-point shots in the game and forced 11 North Carolina turnovers on defense.

FSU scored the first basket of the game giving them an early three-point lead that they never gave back. The Noles scored 10 points on six North Carolina turnovers while also getting the deep ball working early. The Seminoles hit four three-pointers during the first quarter and finished the quarter with a 19-12 lead. O'Mariah Gordon led the Noles in scoring with six points in the opening frame.

The Noles stayed hot from three-point range, hitting two threes to start the second quarter. FSU continued to take advantage of scoring off turnovers and playing solid defense. Bejedi was the hot hand, scoring 10 points in the quarter. The story of the first half was the difference in three-point shooting - the Seminoles made eight first-half threes shooting 35 percent from deep while the Tar Heels only managed one made three shooting 13 percent.

FSU played great defense in the second quarter, holding North Carolina to a three-minute scoring drought to end the first half. The Noles took a 41-26 halftime lead and were led by Bejedi in scoring with 13 points, and Timpson who led the Noles in rebounds with six.

Coming out of the first half Bejedi got the Noles going with her fourth made three-pointer of the game. The Noles saw themselves up by as many as 21 points in the quarter until a late North Carolina rally cut the lead to 11 points. UNC held the Noles to just four made shots in the quarter. Carolina's Paulina Paris led all scorers in the quarter with eight as Bejedi tacked on seven more, pushing her total to 20.

FSU took a 58-47 lead heading into the final quarter. The Tar Heels capitalized in the final frame, cutting the Seminole lead down to just four points with two minutes left to play. The momentum shifted back to FSU when Timpson made a huge and-one basket, essentially icing the game for the Noles. The Seminoles also got key defensive stops down the stretch, anchored by Timpson in the paint.

The Seminoles were the beneficiary of a 16-for-18 night at the free throw line, and recorded 15 assists to 11 turnovers.

Another Big Bejedi Game Leads No. 21 Noles Past No. 11 Virginia Tech.

By Edward Klinsport

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 21 Florida State Women's Basketball team (14-4, 5-1) won against No. 11 Virginia Tech (13-3, 4-1) in an 89-81 thriller on Sunday at the Tucker Center. Fifth-year guard Sara Bejedi punctuated the performance with a career-high 31 points.

The win finishes a 2-0 week for the Seminoles against AP Top 20 opponents, as FSU defeated No. 20 UNC 70-62 at the Tucker Center on Thursday before delivering another eight-point win over reigning NCAA Women's Final Four Team Virginia Tech.

"That's a huge win against a really good Virginia Tech team," FSU Head Coach Brooke Wyckoff said. "I felt like at some points in the game we didn't have answers for what they were doing - they're so good. But our team responded. They never let up, they kept believing. We had a down second quarter but when we came out of halftime, our team was relentless."

Bejedi not only led the Noles in scoring, but also set new career highs in field goals made (9) and free throws attempted (12). She also matched her career highs in rebounds (8), 3-pointers made (5), and free throws made (8). She delivered 16 of her 30 points in a second half where the Seminoles shot 61.5 percent (16-of-26) from the floor.

The Helsinki, Finland, native was in attack mode all game, drawing 10 fouls.

Sophomore Ta'Niya Latson passed 1,000 career points late in the game, tying for the fastest Seminole ever to reach the milestone in what was just her 48th career game played. FSU all-time scoring leader Sue Galkantas also reach 1,000 points in her 48th game in the 1981-82 season.

The sophomore guard scored 20 points (5-of-12) and made 9-of-14 from the foul line. Her late free throws helped to ice the seventh AP Top 25 win in Wyckoff's short tenure. It is also FSU's third AP Top 25 win of the season.

Besides Bejedi's 31 and Latson's 20, the Seminoles had other players reach double figure scoring during today's game, including O'Mariah Gordon and Makayla Timpson scoring 17 and 18 points, respectively.

Timpson added four big blocked shots in the game, including one with 32 seconds left that virtually iced the win with the Seminoles leading 86-79. She had the challenge of going up against two-time ACC Player of the Year Elizabeth Kitley, who had 30 points on 28 shots with five assists.

The first quarter was a mostly one-sided matchup, where FSU kept the lead out of reach of Virginia Tech to finish the first 27-19. On the Seminoles' side, Bejedi dominated the first quarter scoring 14 points, going 4-of-6 on fields goals and a near perfect 5-of-6 from the foul line.

The second quarter was a much closer contest, as the Hokies outscored the Seminoles 27-13 in the quarter to bring their halftime lead to 46-40 over FSU. Gordon led Florida State in scoring during the second, adding five to her nine points in the first half.

Virginia Tech kept their momentum going into the second half; however, FSU did not let them take the advantage. The Noles, despite being down 64-65, outscored the Hokies 24-19 in the third quarter. Bejedi continued to lead in scoring, adding nine points in the third to increase her total to 24.

FSU would go on to out-score the Hokies 25-16 in a fourth quarter where it shot 53.8 percent. Latson recorded 11 points in the fourth.

No. 15 Noles Fall at No. 25 Syracuse.

By Stephen Stone

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - A furious comeback by 25th-ranked Syracuse resulted in a 79-73 loss by No. 15 Florida State Women's Basketball on Thursday night at the JMA Wireless Dome.

The Seminoles (14-5, 5-2) held a 54-36 lead with 7:58 remaining in the third quarter, but Syracuse's Dyaisha Fair proved to be too much as she sparked the comeback with 31 points on 24 field goal attempts. Sophomore guard Ta'Niya Latson recorded 22 points with nine assists, while junior forward Makayla Timpson added 16 points and 12 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season.

Timpson also recorded her 22nd career double-double, moving into a tie for sixth place in FSU history. Sophomore Snoop Turnage added 10 boards. Both teams tied on the glass at 40-40, but the Seminoles held a large advantage in the rebounding battle for much of the game until Syracuse caught up late.

Junior guard O'Mariah Gordon had a solid performance with 16 points, three rebounds and two assists.

FSU out-scored Syracuse 46-22 in the paint, but the Orange made up for it by going 10-of-21 beyond the arc.

The Seminoles were out-scored 25-11 in what was a crucial fourth quarter, which had been their best quarter of the season entering Thursday's game. FSU came out of a timeout and got a layup by Latson and the foul to re-take the lead at 69-67, but back-to-back 3-point field goals by Fair gave the Orange a 73-69 lead with 2:43 left.

Timpson made good on a shot in the paint to cut FSU's deficit to 75-73, but the Seminoles were unable to convert offensively for the remaining minute.

Seminoles Fall In Close One To Virginia.

By Kaila Fisher

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - In a close game on Sunday afternoon at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, No. 15 Florida State Women's Basketball fell to Virginia, 91-87, in what was the 58th meeting in series history between the two programs.

"Obviously, a disappointing loss," FSU Head Coach Brooke Wyckoff said. "A lot of credit to Virginia and the way that they played - they came out, and despite having a rough start to ACC play, they came out and played really good basketball today, especially in the second half. We just didn't get the job done on the defensive end."

Sophomore Ta'Niya Latson, who was honored prior to the game for reaching 1,000 career points, led FSU with 22 points and six assists. Junior forward Makayla Timpson had 21 points with seven rebounds. Junior guard O'Mariah Gordon added 17 points and fifth-year guard Sara Bejedi had 10.

The Seminoles fell to Virginia despite turning the ball over just three times, while forcing 19 UVA turnovers. The Cavaliers shot 53.7 percent from the floor and out-rebounded FSU, 48-30, to counter their high total of miscues.

Taking advantage early, Virginia (9-9, 1-6) took a ten-point lead against the Seminoles (14-6, 5-3), but FSU got right back in it with its fast-paced offense despite facing its largest home deficit in nearly two months. Junior guard O'Mariah Gordon led FSU with seven points in the first quarter. Gordon was followed by Timpson, who recorded five points and four rebounds. UVA held a 27-22 lead at the end of the first quarter.

FSU managed to prevail in the second quarter, headlined by a nice spin pass from Latson and a finish by Snoop Turnage for the 3-pointer to knot the game at 35-35. The Noles continued to dominate the second quarter thanks to back-to-back free throws provided by Bejedi and Gordon, which helped FSU take 43-39 halftime lead.

After the Noles and Virginia battled back-and-forth throughout the third quarter, the Noles and Cavaliers tied 65-65 at the end of quarter three.

Even with the free throw given by Timpson, which broke the tie 66-65 to begin the period, the final quarter was taken over by Virginia. Guard Kymora Johnson was too much for the Noles as she recorded 35 points to get the Hoos their first conference win of the season. UVA out-scored FSU 26-22 in the final period.

Latson Makes History; No. 23 Noles Sting Georgia Tech Again.

ATLANTA, Ga. - Sophomore guard Ta'Niya Latson recorded her record-breaking 12th career 30-point performance as No. 23 Florida State Women's Basketball used a huge fourth quarter to defeat Georgia Tech, 78-67, on Sunday afternoon at McCamish Pavilion.

Ignited by Latson's 17 points in the fourth quarter, the Seminoles (15-7, 6-4) came back from a 55-51 deficit at the end of the third quarter and out-scored the Yellow Jackets (13-8, 4-5) 27-12 in the final period. Latson delivered 33 points with six rebounds and five assists, completing FSU's regular season sweep over Georgia Tech.

In her short FSU career that consists of just 52 games, Latson moves past FSU all-time leading scorer Sue Galkantas for the most 30-point games in school history. Amazingly, Latson has delivered four performances with 30+ points vs. Georgia Tech in all four games played, including stat lines of 30, 31, 32 and 33-point games against the Yellow Jackets.

The Seminoles clamped down defensively in the fourth quarter as well, holding Georgia Tech to 3-of-16 in the frame. FSU went 9-of-19 in the fourth and used a huge 10-0 run midway through the quarter to finally separate from the Yellow Jackets.

Junior guard O'Mariah Gordon had another impressive outing, scoring 12 points with three rebounds. She leads FSU with 19 double-figure point games this season.

With the help of Makayla Timpson (8), Snoop Turnage (7) and Sakyia White (5), the Seminoles out-rebounded Georgia Tech 45-33 on the glass in what was one of their best defensive efforts in conference play. The win over Georgia Tech is a strong way to begin the second half of their conference schedule, with FSU owning a 6-4 ACC mark.

Timpson also became the 19th Seminole to eclipse 600 career rebounds in Sunday's matchup.

The turning point of the game came on FSU's 10-0 run that was guided by Latson. The Miami, Fla., native began getting downhill throughout the second half and gave the Seminoles their first lead of the quarter at 61-60 with 6:21 remaining. Alexis Tucker was a key part as well, taking a drive to the rim and getting the tough layup, and then following with a big mid-range jumper to put FSU ahead 69-64 with 1:43 left.

FSU followed with three big defensive stops until Georgia Tech's Rusne Augustinaite hit a 3-point field goal to cut its deficit to 74-67 with 16 seconds remaining. Latson's first made free throw with 25 seconds left in a Georgia Tech fouling situation gave her 30 points to secure the career record.

Georgia Tech's Kara Dunn led the Yellow Jackets with 19 points in the loss.

Seminoles Buckle Down for Big Win Over Miami.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - A 14-2 game-ending run that was ignited by several strong defensive possessions elevated Florida State Women's Basketball to a 75-68 rivalry win over Miami on Sunday morning at an enthusiastic Tucker Center.

"Games against Miami are always exciting," FSU Head Coach Brooke Wyckoff said. "It's nice to play them at home in front of an awesome crowd and come out with a win. I'm proud of how as a team (in the fourth quarter) we locked down and focused on both ends and got stops."

The Seminoles nabbed their fourth NET Top 50 win of the season by holding Miami to just two points over the last 5 ½ minutes of the game. Momentum twisted in FSU's favor when junior guard O'Mariah Gordon hit a crucial 3-pointer in stride to tie the game at 66-66 with 4:56 remaining.

After getting one of many stops down the stretch on the next possession, sophomore Ta'Niya Latson barreled inside for a tough layup as the Seminoles retook the lead at 68-66 with 4:26 remaining. One of the biggest shots of the game came on a 3-point field goal by fifth-year guard Sara Bejedi, who hit one from the corner to make it a two-possession game at 73-68 with 1:18 left.

Bejedi became the 17th Seminole to make 100 career 3-point field goals on her first attempt of the game early in the first quarter. Her final made 3 was one of the biggest shots of her career.

Florida State out-scored Miami 19-11 in the fourth quarter despite trailing 66-61 with 5:42 left. Junior forward Makayla Timpson secured her 10th double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds - also her seventh career 20-point game and her second vs. the Hurricanes (14-7, 4-6).

Gordon added 16 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots - including an enormous block late in the first quarter than sent the crowd into a frenzy.

"I'm proud of 'O' and how she led us today with 36 minutes on the floor," Wyckoff added.

Gordon also hit a big 3-pointer to end the third quarter and keep the Seminoles right in the game trailing 57-56.

"It felt good, like it was a momentum changer," Gordon said on her 3-point field goal to end the third quarter. "Especially after how the third quarter went. It showed once we went into the fourth quarter, like Coach Brooke said, the last five we held them to two points and had that edge, we went out and played hard to finish the game. We knew how crucial it was to finish games."

The Seminoles had four players in double figures with Timpson (22), Gordon (16), Latson (15) and Bejedi (11). FSU out-rebounded Miami 37-33 and went 10-of-26 from beyond the arc, including 3-of-6 in the fourth quarter. FSU was able to combat relentless pressure from the Hurricanes, which out-scored FSU 24-15 in the third.

Miami was led by Lemyah Hylton's 15 points and Jaida Patrick's 12 rebounds. Since 2020, FSU is 5-4 against Miami in what has been a back-and-forth rivalry as of late.

Noles Take Down Pitt on the Road.

PITTSBURGH, PA. - Despite a furious comeback by Pittsburgh on Thursday night at the Petersen Events Center, Florida State Women's Basketball used a strong fourth quarter to earn a 76-60 road win.

Junior forward Makayla Timpson totaled 15 points and 11 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season, including her second straight. Timpson had the assignment of trying to contain Pitt post Liatu King, who had 21 points and 15 boards but went 9-of-20 from the floor.

The Seminoles (17-7, 8-4) got their third ACC road win of the season behind a critical performance from their bench, out-scoring Pitt 28-7. It was FSU's most bench points in ACC play, as freshman Carla Viegas recorded a career-high five 3-point field goals along with 17 points.

Viegas and Sara Bejedi own the season highs this season with most 3-pointers made, as Bejedi has done it three times this season.

Sophomore Ta'Niya Latson chipped in with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists. Graduate guard Alexis Tucker got hot early to spark the Noles and had nine points.

FSU held a 25-point lead at 42-17 right before halftime, its largest lead in ACC play this season. Pitt came out strong in the third quarter, even cutting its deficit to 50-45 with 2:46 left in the third. Following a needed timeout, it was Timpson who responded big with a layup inside and then two more free throws made to give FSU the cushion it needed at 54-45.

The Seminoles then ended the game on a 22-15 run to seal another win over the Panthers (7-17, 1-10), improving to 11-0 all-time against Pitt.

Noles Fall in Double Overtime Thriller vs. No. 12 Notre Dame.

By Edward Klinsport

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Ta'Niya Latson's 34 points were not enough as Florida State Women's Basketball was outlasted in a double overtime thriller against No. 12 Notre Dame, falling 98-94 at the Tucker Center in Sunday's Paint it Pink game.

Latson delivered her 13th career 30-point game, falling one shy of her career-high 35 points against Florida earlier this season. She was efficient all afternoon, going 14-of-25 from the floor, 4-of-5 from 3-point range, adding seven rebounds and dishing out eight assists in nearly 43 minutes played.

"It was an amazing basketball game today. Unfortunately we didn't come out on the end we wanted to come out on," FSU Head Coach Brooke Wyckoff said. "But I'm so proud of the effort and what we were able to accomplish this game. We would have liked to have won, but I'm proud of players like Ta'Niya who battled for over 40 minutes and gave absolutely everything they had."

From the outset and into double overtime, both teams traded shot for shot. The Seminoles were hurt by 24 turnovers despite shooting 50 percent (37-of-74) from the floor. In the second overtime, a huge 3-point field goal by Sara Bejedi put the Seminoles ahead 93-91 with four minutes left, but Notre Dame continued to capitalize down the stretch as Sonia Citron tied the game on a fastbreak layup at 93-93. She then got a few more free throws after FSU accidentally fouled on the inbound with four seconds left to give the Irish a 96-94 lead.

The Seminoles called their final timeout and advanced the ball to the front court, but a turnover on the inbounds pass sealed the win for Notre Dame.

Junior forward Makayla Timpson had another double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Junior guard O'Mariah Gordon went 7-of-10 from the floor for 18 points, hitting some huge buckets down the stretch. Bejedi added 16.

Notre Dame was led by freshman Hannah Hidalgo's 27 points, including 13-of-14 from the free throw line. Anna DeWolfe drilled six 3's and added 24 points.

The first quarter started out as a back-and-forth contest between the two teams, with the Seminoles (17-8, 8-5) down 21-20 to the visiting Irish (18-5, 8-4). Latson led the Noles' offense in the first, scoring 13 points, going 5-for-8 on field goals, and being perfect from three-point range.

The second quarter was a similar battle to the first, but this time Florida State would outscore Notre Dame 28-21 in the quarter for a first half score of 48-42. Florida State was aided by Latson and Bejedi both scoring eight points during the quarter, bringing their in-game totals to 21 and 13 respectively.

Both teams kept their momentum going into the second half. The Irish outscored the Seminoles 17-16 in the third, but that would not be enough as the home team would stay ahead 64-59. Latson would add eight more points in the third to her total of 29.

Notre Dame took advantage in the fourth, out-scoring the Noles 20-15 to help send the game to overtime.

Sunday's game marked FSU's first double overtime performance since facing Texas at home on Feb. 3, 2017.

Timpson's Double-Double Sparks Noles Past Wake Forest.

By Stephen Stone

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior forward Makayla Timpson's dominant second half sparked Florida State Women's Basketball to a 71-63 win at Wake Forest on Thursday night at the LJVM Coliseum.

Timpson recorded 16 points and 16 rebounds, her 13th double-double of the season and fourth consecutive. The Edison, Ga., native had 14 points and 10 rebounds just in the second half, using a key third quarter surge where she went on an 8-0 run by herself to give the Seminoles (18-8, 9-5) some much needed distance from the Demon Deacons (4-21, 0-13). Timpson's 16 boards mark a career high.

Timpson's 13 double-doubles are now two shy of matching FSU legend Natasha Howard's school-record 15 single-season double-doubles from the 2013-14 season.

Both Timpson and fifth-year guard Sara Bejedi reached milestones tonight, surpassing 1,000 points in their collegiate careers.

With FSU clinging to a 46-45 lead with 6:08 left in the third, Timpson busted the game open with her 8-0 run. She scored 10 points in the third quarter to give FSU a 58-49 lead heading into the fourth.

Ta'Niya Latson led all scorers with 23 points and added six rebounds and four assists. Bejedi was efficient with 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting, while O'Mariah Gordon added 10 points.

Florida State out-rebounded Wake Forest in the second half, 23-15, and held a 38-32 edge for the game. Wake Forest made one more push in the fourth, getting to within 58-54 with 9:10 left in the game, but Latson continued to draw fouls and get to the line to help put the game away.

The win was big for FSU, as it moves up to sole possession of fifth place in the latest ACC standings.

Latson's 29 Leads Noles Over Canes.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Another second-half special by superstar Ta'Niya Latson elevated Florida State Women's Basketball to a key 74-68 road win at Miami on Sunday afternoon at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Fla.

Latson weaved and drove through Miami's tough defense all day, especially in the third and fourth quarters when she poured in 18 combined points. The sophomore finished with 29 points and went 13-of-22 from the floor along with three assists and three rebounds.

The hard-fought six-point road win completes a regular-season sweep over the Hurricanes (16-9, 6-8), the first by FSU since the 2019-20 season. Latson sealed the win with 11 fourth-quarter points, perhaps none more important than her driving layup that gave the Seminoles (19-8, 10-5) a 67-58 lead with 3:57 remaining.

Junior forward Makayla Timpson inches closer to FSU history as she secured her 14th double-double of the season, recording 16 points and 11 rebounds while also draw six fouls. It's the fifth consecutive double-double for Timpson, a career-long stretch.

Fifth-year guard Sara Bejedi came up huge with 19 points along with four 3-point field goals. Bejedi helped anchor the Seminoles in the first half, including in FSU's 26-point second quarter, and came up with big plays on both ends of the floor late in the game.

The win by the Seminoles marks their ninth consecutive year of recording 10 or more wins in ACC play, which excludes the 2020-21 COVID-ravaged season when FSU was unable to play its full allotment of conference games. FSU also records its 10th consecutive winning season in ACC play. The Seminoles have not had a losing conference record since the 2013-14 season.

Junior guard O'Mariah Gordon chipped in with eight points, and provided one of the biggest plays of the game when her corner 3-point field goal with 2:39 left put FSU ahead 70-59 with 2:39 left. Miami made a late run and pulled to within 72-66 on a 3-pointer by Jaida Patrick with 53 seconds left, but FSU was able to run its in-bounds plays effectively and counter Miami's extension of the game with made free throws.

Florida State remains in sole possession of fifth place in the ACC standings with three regular-season games remaining.

The Canes took a 16-12 lead through the first quarter, boosted by Shayeann Day-Wilson's eight points. Bejedi matched her opening performance with eight of her own. For the game, Day-Wilson led Miami with 21 points.

The Seminoles out-scored Miami 26-16 in an efficient second quarter, bolstered by Timpson's 11 points in the frame. FSU used an 8-0 late in the quarter to take a 38-32 halftime lead.

Latson Sizzles With 34 in Win Over Boston College.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Sophomore guard Ta'Niya Latson continued her torrid stretch of play on Thursday night, pouring in 34 points as Florida State Women's Basketball clinched its 20th win of the season in an 84-71 victory over Boston College at the Tucker Center.

The Miami, Fla., native recorded her seventh 30-point game of the season, including her sixth in ACC play which leads the league. She went 14-of-25 from the floor, taking over in the second quarter when she had 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting in the frame.

"I'm really happy with this win. Any win in the ACC is big," FSU Head Coach Brooke Wyckoff said. "I'm proud of a lot of things we did tonight to get this one done. We took care of the ball really well against a team that forces a lot of turnovers. Ta'Niya had a great individual performance, and I'm really proud of her production, and the way that she was locked in for this one."

The Seminoles (20-8, 11-5) remain in fifth place in the ACC and a half-game ahead of No. 19 Notre Dame (20-6, 10-5), which did not play on Thursday night. FSU has an enormous road game coming up at 20th-ranked Louisville on Thursday night at 8 p.m. as the Cardinals (22-6, 11-4) own the No. 4 spot in the league as of now. The Seminoles have their second bye of the season, not playing this weekend.

FSU rode the wave of Latson's hot play from the second quarter through the end of the game, as she often found the space she needed against a tough Boston College defense. Latson had a variety of contested layup and pull-up jumpers on Thursday, dribbling and weaving through defenders and finishing consistently in traffic.

Junior forward Makayla Timpson had her stretch of five consecutive double-doubles come to an end on Thursday, recording 16 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Reserve post player Avery Treadwell provided valuable minutes off the bench with seven points, five rebounds and a blocked shot in nearly 12 minutes of action.

Junior guard O'Mariah Gordon added 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Sophomore Snoop Turnage had a career-high six assists.

The Seminoles tied their season high with 54 points in the paint, out-scoring the Eagles (11-17, 3-12) 54-34 inside. FSU also generated 21 points off turnovers and turned the ball over just 11 times against a defensive unit that is one of the best in the league at forcing opponent miscues.

Despite going 1-of-14 from beyond the arc, FSU shot 46.6 percent (34-of-73) for the game and held B.C. to 36.1 percent (26-of-72) from the floor. Teya Sidberry led the Eagles with 19 points.

The Eagles got back into the game late against FSU, trailing just 66-58 with eight minutes remaining. But a game-sealing 14-0 run put things away as the Seminoles created an 80-58 advantage with 3:27 left that was too much for B.C. to overcome.

Timpson Ties Double-Double Mark in Loss at Louisville.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Junior forward Makayla Timpson recorded 17 points and 11 rebounds to tie the single-season double-doubles mark at Florida State with 15 as the Seminoles fell at No. 22 Louisville, 70-55, on Thursday night at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville.

Timpson ties WNBA All-Star Natasha Howard's 15 double-doubles that she recorded in the 2013-14 season. Timpson also recorded four blocks, moving her season total to 78 and putting her seven blocks away from breaking Jacinta Monroe's single-season record of 84.

Sophomore Ta'Niya Latson led all scorers with 18 points in the loss. FSU is now in sole possession of seventh place in the league heading into Sunday's 4 p.m. finale at home against Clemson.

The Cardinals (23-7, 12-5) out-rebounded FSU, 57-32, in a game that was very physical. Olivia Cochran led UofL with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

It was a physical first quarter where Louisville took an 18-16 advantage. After trailing 8-0 early, FSU called a timeout and out-scored the Cardinals 16-10 through the rest of the quarter. Timpson led the way with eight points in the first.

Louisville took control in the second quarter, out-scoring the Seminoles 25-10. UofL was keyed by a 14-0 run midway through the period, with Sydney Taylor getting hot with 10 points. Timpson led FSU with 10 points going into halftime, crossing double figures for the 25th time this season.

FSU was able to out-score Louisville 18-11 in the final quarter.

Noles Outlast Clemson in Overtime; Clinch 6 Seed at ACCs.

By Stephen Stone

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Senior Sara Bejedi came up huge for Florida State Women's Basketball on Sunday, scoring seven points in overtime as the Seminoles (21-9, 12-6) outlasted Clemson, 82-79, in front of a raucous crowd at the Tucker Center.

Fittingly, Bejedi led Florida State with 19 points in the overtime win. The victory secured the No. 6 seed in next week's ACC Women's Basketball Tournament, where the Seminoles will take on either No. 11 seed Virginia or No. 14 seed Wake Forest in the ACC Second Round.

Clemson's Nya Valentine hit a corner 3-pointer with 2:32 left in the fourth to put the Tigers (12-18, 5-13) ahead convincingly at 71-63. FSU turned up its defense and ended regulation on an 8-0 run, headlined by Bejedi's 3-pointer from the wing that tied the game at 71-71 with 52 seconds left.

With Ta'Niya Latson missing overtime due to fouling out, Bejedi took over for the Seminoles. She hit another 3-pointer to begin overtime and added to the lead with a free throw to make it 75-71 with 2:49 left.

Clemson refused to back down, and after FSU's Makayla Timpson basket inside gave the Noles a 79-77 lead with six seconds left, the Tigers responded with a quick bucket from the front court to tie the game once again at 79-79 with 4.4 seconds remaining.

FSU would miss a 3-point field goal attempt from the right corner, but the Tigers were called for a technical foul after calling an immediate timeout on the rebound that they didn't have. Bejedi calmly sank one of two free throws with 1.1 seconds left to put the game away.

"I'm happy for this win," FSU Head Coach Brooke Wyckoff said. "I'm proud of this team for their resiliency. I'm so excited that this was senior day, and what a way to go out with Sara's last game at the Tuck and what she was able to do and the big plays she made at the end of the game. Alexis Tucker too gave us phenomenal minutes. I'm proud of our team. This is what March is probably going to feel like."

Bejedi was one of four FSU players in double figures, along with Timpson (18), Latson (17) and O'Mariah Gordon (16). The win clinches a second consecutive conference season of finishing with 12 ACC wins, the first time it has gone consecutive years with 12 or more conference victories since the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.

FSU once again took care of the basketball, committing just nine turnovers and forcing 16 by the Tigers. FSU limited Clemson to just 10 fourth-quarter points after allowing 30 in the third quarter.

Dayshanette Harris led all scorers with 22 points for Clemson.

Timpson's FSU record 16th double-double lifts Seminoles past Wake Forest.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Makayla Timpson had 22 points and 13 rebounds for her school record 16th double-double of the season and sixth-seeded Florida State opened a 20-point halftime lead and cruised to a 70-53 win over 14th-seeded Wake Forest in the second round of the ACC Tournament on Thursday night.

The Seminoles were 21 of 25 at the foul line and the Demon Deacons were 4 of 9, a big reason Florida State moved on to a Friday night quarterfinal against No. 20 Syracuse, the third seed.

Ta'Niya Latson added 19 points for the Seminoles (22-9), who beat Wake Forest by 12 and 8 points in the regular season. O'Maria Gordon added 12 points. Timpson was 8 of 9 from the foul line, Latson 6 of 8 and Gordon 5 of 5. Timpson also had two blocks, putting her just one behind Jacinta Monroe's single-season record of 84.

Alexandria Scruggs scored 14 points to lead the Demon Deacons (7-25). Elise Williams had 12 points and Kaia Harrison 11. Williams had 25 points in the opener, when Wake Forest rallied in the fourth quarter to edge Virginia, but shot 4 of 18 in this one.

Timpson had 16 points and the Seminoles raced to a 37-17 halftime lead despite shooting just 33%. The Demon Deacons shot just 24%, going 1 of 13 from 3-point range. And while Wake Forest was 0 for 2 from the foul line, behind Timpson, FSU was 13 of 14.

Timpson scored the first four points of the game and contributed five points in a 13-2 run that helped the Seminoles take a 19-9 lead after one quarter.

The teams were a combined 1 of 10 behind the arc and 9 of 36 overall in the second quarter when FSU outscored Wake Forest 18-8.

The Demon Deacons made 3 of 4 from long range in the third quarter and doubled their score but only shaved one point off their deficit. The Seminoles took a 53-34 lead into the fourth quarter.

Noles Take Down No. 20 Syracuse; Advance to ACC Semifinals.

By Stephen Stone

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Ta'Niya Latson scored 25 points and O'Mariah Gordon put up a career-high 24 to lead Florida State to a 78-65 win over No. 20 Syracuse in an Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament quarterfinal Friday night.

Florida State (23-9), the tournament's sixth seed, will face second-seeded and No. 10-ranked North Carolina State in Saturday's semifinal round.

The Seminoles' decisive win was payback after the teams met in the tournament quarterfinals in 2021, when the Orange's Kamilla Cardoso rolled in a follow shot at the buzzer for an 86-85 win to deny the Seminoles a berth in the semifinals for the third time in four seasons.

The Seminoles, who lost at Syracuse 79-73 on Jan. 18, never trailed in the game, building a 23-18 lead after one quarter and leading by as many as 27 in the fourth.

Florida State outrebounded the Orange 50-35 including 21 offensive boards to score 24 second-chance points. Makayla Timpson led the Seminoles with 18 rebounds to go with her 10 points.

Latson shot 10 of 18 from the floor before fouling out midway through the fourth quarter. Gordon was 9 of 16 from the floor and 2 of 3 from long range. Sara Bejedi contributed 10 points.

Dyaisha Fair scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Syracuse (23-7). Georgia Woolley and Alaina Rice each scored 10 points.

Seminoles Fall to NC State; Finish ACC Tournament Run.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Aziaha James scored 23 points, Mimi Collins added 17 points and 13 rebounds and No. 10 North Carolina State beat Florida State on 69-43 Saturday to advance to the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game for the fourth time in five seasons.

NC State outrebounded Florida State 58-32 and held the Seminoles to 25 percent shooting from the field.

The Wolfpack (27-5) will face No. 14 Notre Dame in Sunday's championship game. The fourth-seeded Irish hammered defending tournament champion and 11th-ranked Virginia Tech, playing without three-time ACC player of the year Elizabeth Kitley, 82-53 in the earlier game.

NC State beat Notre Dame 59-43 on Feb. 15 in South Bend, Indiana.

Ta'Naya Latson had 16 points for Florida State (26-6), which will now await its NCAA Tournament seeding.

The Wolfpack won the ACC title in 2020, 2021 and 2002 but failed to reach the title game last season.

Saniya Rivers' 3-pointer just two minutes in gave the Wolfpack a 6-5 lead they would never relinquish.

NC State pushed its lead to 20-11 after the first quarter behind 11 points from Collins, then extended the lead to 15 after James buried a 3-pointer from the left wing in the closing seconds of the first half. That momentum carried over to the second half, with Rivers knocking down a jumper at the end of the third quarter to give the Wolfpack a 50-29 lead.
