Kane, Walker Collect ACC Indoor Track and Field Accolades.

March 27, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Senior Shenese Walker and Head Coach Matt Kane have garnered the ACC annual awards, as announced by the conference office on Friday. Walker was named the 2026 Indoor Women's Performer of the Year while Kane tabbed the Men's Coach of the Year.

Florida State captured its first Coach of the Year honor since 2018, and the first under Kane's leadership as head coach. Walker added to the milestone moment, becoming only the second recipient in program history to earn the annual honor on the women's side.

"Tremendous indoor season for Shenese," said head coach Matt Kane. "She had some serious goals coming into the season, and she accomplished nearly all of them. After a great off season of training, it's a nice reward for her to earn these kinds of accolades. It excites not only her, but its great for the other ladies in the program to see one of their own having that level of success."

"I feel any time a coach wins an award it's about the people around him", added Kane. "Hats off to our coaches and staff for all the hard work and dedication they provide to the kids, and I am fortunate to have great kids to work who have truly brought into our program and continue to invest themselves every day."

MATT KANE- ACC MEN'S COACH OF THE YEAR

Kane led the Florida State men's team to its first ACC Championship title since 2020, marking the first time in his head coaching career. The men's team won their 15th title in program history after accumulating a total of 94 points. At the ACC Indoor Championships, Kane led the Seminoles to two individual champions, five bronze medals and a silver medal with five first team all-conference members. Florida State finished with a combined total of six new top 10 performances in its program history.

SHENESE WALKER-ACC WOMEN'S PEFORMER OF THE YEAR

Walker had a remarkable final indoor collegiate season, earning multiple conference honors and etching her name into the record books multiple times this season.

At the ACC Indoor Championship, Walker was named the women's MVP for the second time in her career after pulling off double victory in the sprints with 20 total points. Walker competed in the women's 60, setting a meet record of 7.13. She concluded the championship in the women's 200 with a winning time of 22.98.

The Jamaican native went on to the NCAA Indoor National Championship, recording one of the most memorable seasons in Florida State history. The senior captured her first national title after being crowned the 60-meter national champion in Fayetteville, Arkansas, posting a winning time of 7.08 to complete an undefeated season.

The three-time first-team All-American breezed through the preliminaries with a blistering time of 7.07, which stands as a new conference and school record. Walker's first round time is the 13th-fastest time in collegiate history and fifth all-time in Division I history.

Walker Qualifies for NCAA Finals.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Florida State track and field teams began the 2026 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship on Friday at the Randal Tyson Track, with Shenese Walker advancing to the finals in the 60-meters.

The ACC Women's MVP and three-time 60-meter champion, Walker qualified for Saturday's final after resetting her own school and conference record time of 7.07. Walker's new personal-best now stands as the NCAA lead and ties the 13th-fastest time in collegiate history.

Andre Korbmacher earned second-team All-American honors for the second straight year in the men's 60 hurdles, placing 12th overall with a time of 7.61.

Walker Crowned Women's 60 Meter National Champion.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Florida State track and field senior Shenese Walker won the national championship in the women's 60-meter, clocking a winning time of 7.08 at the Randal Tyson Track Center on Saturday.

The three-time first-team All-American breezed through the preliminaries on Friday with a blistering time of 7.07, which stands as a new conference and school record. Walker's first round time ties the 13th-fastest time in collegiate history and fifth all-time in Division I history.

Walker became just the second Florida State athlete to win a national title in the event and the first since Tonya Carter in 2000. The Jamaican native's victory also marks Florida State's 24th individual national champion of all-time and the program's first since Kimberly Williams in 2011.

Walker adds another historic moment to Florida State's storied track and field legacy after recently being named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's MVP from a double victory in the short sprints and three consecutive 60 titles.

"Shenese has been great since she's been here," said head coach Matt Kane. "Her preliminary round yesterday was a bit smoother, but at the end of the day, it's all about time and winning. She got out there to do what she needed to do, and it was fun to watch."

"I've been chasing this since I got to Florida State," said Walker. "I've been in the finals two times before this, and finally I got the result that I wanted, so I'm happy about that."
