Florida State Defeats Penn 105-70 In Season Opener.

by Kennedy Knisley

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Redshirt senior Malik Osborne had a team high 18 points and 13 rebounds in Florida State's 105-70 season-opening victory against the University of Pennsylvania at the Donald L. Tucker Center. The performance marked Osborne's fourth career double-double and his Florida State career high in scoring. The Seminoles' victory over Penn marks the first time they have defeated a team from the Ivy League in program history.

Osborne led three Seminoles in double-figure scoring in the victory. Senior RayQuan Evans and sophomore Caleb Mills contributed 14 points while redshirt senior Anthony Polite scored 17. Evans had five assists and three steals against the Quakers as well.

Polite scored three triples against Penn and is now one of the top 25 3-point field goal shooters by percentage with a .366 throughout his career. He has 82 career 3-point field goals made and needs 18 more to become the 24th player in school history with 100 or more career 3-point field goals made.

"I thought our players showed a tremendous amount of maturity tonight, in terms of giving our inexperienced guys a lot of leadership on the floor," said Seminole Head Coach Leonard Hamilton. "I thought we had good focus during the week."

Sophomore Cam'ron Fletcher was one point shy of double figure scoring with nine points but contributed a career-high five steals.

The Seminoles were up by a 51-39 margin going into the locker room at halftime, with a 17-point performance by Osborne and four steals from Fletcher all in the first half.

With 16 Seminoles getting playing time, Florida State extended their lead to 41 points late in the second half. The Seminoles held the Quakers to .397 shooting from the field and held a 49-29 rebounding margin. Florida State had 15 steals while Penn only had four.

"Were still are trying to find ourselves," said Hamilton. "We are still trying to develop some consistency in our practices, and we know that we can be better than how we played tonight. I thought our effort, our energy, even though we played through some mistakes, was tremendous. We didn't shoot well from the three; we are a better three point shooting team than we showed, but they pressed the entire game and until the last two or three minutes we only had eight turnovers and that just shows that our guys are learning and growing and absorbing what we are trying to teach them."

Florida State's triple digit performance marks the 11th time in program history that the Seminoles have scored over 100 points in a season opener. The most recent was a 109-62 victory over Nicholls State on November 15, 2015.

Penn's Jordan Dingle led the Quakers with a game-high 23 points while junior Jonah Charles and sophomore Clark Slajchert had 12 points apiece.

"We knew that Florida State would be long and athletic," said Penn Coach Steve Donahue. "But I think what caught our guys off guard a little bit was how physical and relentless they were - especially on the defensive end. With so many of our guys playing in a regular-season game for the first time, there were more 'welcome to college basketball' moments than I would have liked to see. There was a tenacity to that FSU team that doesn't translate on film."

Osborne spoke of the tremendous atmosphere in the Tucker Center.

"It's an amazing feeling," said Osborne. "We've got a lot of guys who are energy guys, so them playing in these types of environments where the Tucker is packed out and everybody is giving us energy. Those things are what make us play even harder, what drives us even more because we know we are playing for each other, but we also have the extra support of our fan base behind us."

Basketball Falls to Florida 71-55.

by Kennedy Knisley

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Senior Malik Osborne scored a team-high 18 points and freshman Matthew Cleveland scored 11 points as the No. 19/20 Florida State Seminoles fell short at Florida, 71-55. Osborne contributed three steals, while redshirt senior Anthony Polite grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. The Seminoles' seven-game winning streak against the Gators, which began in 2014, ended this afternoon at the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.

Florida's defense forced Florida State away from its attacking style of defense early in the game.

Freshman John Butler, Jr. contributed back-to-back 3-point shots and a block to tie the game at 15 before the eight minute media timeout. Osborne then made his first 3-pointer of the game to give the Seminoles their first lead of the game at 20-17. Their largest lead came after another 3-point shot by Osborne, which put the Seminoles up 30-26 as halftime drew closer.

Florida State went into the locker room with a 30-28 lead at the end of the first.

In a game that saw 14 lead changes and nine ties, the Gators reclaimed the lead once and for all at the 12 media timeout of the second half. Florida maintained a 12-point lead until Cleveland made a 3-poin shots to bring the Seminoles to within nine at 56-47.

Unfortunately, that was not enough for the Seminoles, as the Gators took a 64-50 margin with 4:15 left in the game.

Florida State shot .380 from the field and .470 from the three-point line. The Gators shot .390 from the field and only .290 from the three-point line. The Seminoles were outrebounded 44-33 but showed its depth with 22 bench points, while the Gators only had 12 bench points.

With today's performance, Osborne has scored 36 points (18.0 ppg) in the first two games of the season. He is four of seven (.571) from the 3-point line and 10 of 16 (.625) from the field in the first two games of the season.

Butler is five of six (.833) from the field in his first two collegiate games of his career. With two blocks this afternoon, he totals three blocks on the season.

Polite now averages 7.0 rebounds with a total of 14 rebounds and has 19 points (9.5 ppg) in two games against Penn and Florida. Senior RayQuan Evans led the team with three assists and is averaging 4.0 apg this season.

Florida's Colin Castleton and Anthony Duruji led the Gators with 15 points each, as four Gators scored in double digits. Castleton also grabbed 16 rebounds and blocked six shots against the Seminoles. The win was head coach Mike White's first victory over Florida State as Florida's head coach.

Basketball Defeats Boston University 81-80 in Overtime.

by Kennedy Knisley

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Freshman Matthew Cleveland scored on a put-back layup with 2.1 seconds remaining in overtime to give Florida State an 81-80 victory over Boston College at the Donald L. Tucker Center. Cleveland rebounded a missed shot by Caleb Mills to give the Seminoles their only lead in the overtime period and the victory over the upset minded Terriers.

Cleveland then stole the Terriers' inbounds pass to secure the win for the Seminoles.

The win was the 12th consecutive overtime win for Head Coach Leonard Hamilton's program - a collegiate basketball record for consecutive overtime victories. The Seminoles have won each of their overtime games since January 13, 2018 when they gained a double overtime win over Syracuse at home.

Florida State now holds the all-time national record for consecutive overtime victories. Tonight's victory put the Seminoles ahead of Louisville (1968-75), UMass (1991-96) and Virginia (1991-96) who all won 11 consecutive overtime victories.

The win was Florida State's 80th win in its last 84 home games, a streak that began with a 77-56 victory over Notre Dame on February 27, 2015. The Seminoles have a winning percentage of better than 95 percent on their home court since that win over the Fighting Irish.

Mills and Cleveland scored 17 each to pace five Seminoles in double figures in the victory.

Mills was credited with five assists and five steals, while sophomore Cam'Ron Fletcher scored 11 points. Redshirt senior Anthony Polite scored 11 points, totaled five rebounds and five assists, while Malik Osborne put up 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

In scoring two 3-pointers this evening, Fletcher is now four of seven (.571) from beyond the arc in the past two games. He averages 11.5 ppg in Florida State's victories over Missouri and Boston University.

Florida State was up 37-35 at half in what was the closest halftime lead for the Seminoles in their first six games. The Seminoles have led at half in each of their six games this season.

During the second half, the Seminoles maintained a close lead until Boston University's Anthony Morales made a 3-point shot at the buzzer to tie the game at 71.

Six of Cleveland's points came in the overtime, as he made the game-winning layup with 2.1 seconds left in the game. He has scored in double figures in four of the six games of his first collegiate season.

All three of Cleveland's baskets in the overtime period either tied the game - and in the end - proved to be the game winning basket. A Cleveland dunk at the 2:41 mark tied the game at 75 while a layup at the 2:16 mark tied the game at 77. His game winning basket came after Boston University took a three point lead on a layup (at the 1:52 mark) and one of two made free throws (at the 1:29 mark) by Sukhmail Mathon.

The Terriers scored the first four points of the overtime period and led 75-71 with 3:13 left to play.

From there, the Seminoles outscored Boston University by a 10-5 margin to win the game.

In addition to Cleveland's six points in overtime, Polite and Mills both contributed baskets as Florida State improved to 5-1. The Terriers are now 4-3.

The Seminoles shot .476 from the field and .400 from the 3-point line. With 12 steals against the Terriers, Florida State now has 35 steals in the past three games (11.7 spg) and has at least eight steals in his first six games of the season.

Boston University's Javante McCoy scored a team-high 22 points, while Mathon recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Basketball Falls to Syracuse, 63-60, in First Conference Game.

by Kennedy Knisley

TALLAHASSEE, Fl. - Redshirt sophomore Caleb Mills led the Seminoles with 16 points as they fell short to Syracuse, 63-60, in the first conference game of the season. Redshirt senior Malik Osborne contributed 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds against the Orange.

The loss ended Florida State's school-record of 25 consecutive home ACC wins - a streak that began on January 22, 2019. The Seminoles' 25 consecutive home victories now stands as the second longest in conference history behind Duke's 26 consecutive home wins from 1997-2000.

The Seminoles were up 32-24 at half and held the lead until Syracuse took over with 13 minutes remaining in the game. The Orange took the lead on a jump shot by Jimmy Boeheim (38-37) and stretched their lead to 11 with 5:43 left to play before the Seminoles staged a furious comeback.

Beginning with a free throw by Malik Osborne at the 5:02 mark, the Seminoles outscored Syracuse 16-8 to close the game but were unable to tie the game or take the lead in the closing seconds.

The Seminoles closed the gap to just one, 61-60, on a 3-point shot by Osborne.

The Orange increased their lead to 63-60 on two free throws by Cole Swider with 10 seconds remaining to be played.

Florida State had two chances to tie the game in the final second. A 3-point shot attempt by Mills looked like it would fall, but skipped off the rim. Osborne grabbed the offensive rebound, worked he way outside of the 3-point arc, and was just off line with a potential go-ahead basket as the buzzer sounded.

Redshirt senior Anthony Polite contributed six points, four rebounds, and two steals. Polite now has 99 career steals, only one away from 100 for his career. He has had at least one steal in every game this season and multiple steals in five of eight games.

Mills also had two steals and is averaging 3.3 steals per game in his last three games. The transfer from Houston is also averaging 18.3 points per game in those three games (17 against Boston University, 22 against Purdue, 16 against Syracuse).

Osborne made two 3-pointers and has made at least one 3-point shot in six of Florida State's first eight games this season. The senior also shot a perfect four of four from the free throw line and has made 10 consecutive free throws.

With 11 different Seminoles on the court throughout the game, Florida State outscored Syracuse in bench points, 25-1.

Senior RayQuan Evans put up nine points, pulled down six rebounds, and had three blocks in his first game back since the Seminoles' win against Missouri in the Jacksonville Classic.

Freshman Matthew Cleveland and junior Naheem McCleod contributed six apiece for the Seminoles. McCleod was a perfect three of three shooting from the field.

Redshirt senior Harrison Prieto came into the game early in the first half and scored four points. Prieto has scored 22 points in the first eight games of the 2021-22 season. He totaled 24 points in the first 22 games and five years of his career.

Syracuse's Joseph Girard and Buddy Boeheim led the team with 16 points apiece. Jimmy Boeheim contributed 13 points.

Men's Basketball Falls to South Carolina 65-66.

by Kennedy Knisley

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Malik Osborne led Florida State with 15 points as the Seminoles fell, 66-65, to South Carolina in the inaugural No Room for Racism Classic at the Rock Hill Sports and Event Center. Osborne came within one rebound of his fifth career double double with nine rebounds, and redshirt sophomore Caleb Mills scored in double figures with 13 points.

James Reese V and Devin Carter combined for 23 second-half points and South Carolina overcame a 16-point deficit to gain the neutral site win. Carter's bucket with three minutes left gave the Gamecocks (7-2) the lead for good. South Carolina held on when Malik Osborne missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have given Florida State the win.

The Seminoles went into the locker room up 36-30 despite a six and a half minute field goal scoring drought late in the half. Florida State has led at the half in eight of their nine games this season.

The Seminoles lost their lead following a 12-0 run by the Gamecocks going into the under eight media media timeout in the second half. After a 3-point shot by Osborne and two from the line by Anthony Polite, the game was tied at 61. Florida State's 7-0 run was interrupted, and the Seminoles were down by one, 66-65, with just 10 seconds to go.

In scoring three from beyond the arc against South Carolina, Osborne is the Seminoles' leading 3-point shooter this season. The redshirt senior is shooting .538 (14 of 26) from the 3-point line and has made multiple 3-point shots in five of nine games this season.

With two steals this afternoon, Mills has an ACC-high 21 steals this season. He has as many steals in nine games in one season (21) as he did in 35 games and two seasons at Houston (21). Mills has also made 12 consecutive free throws, five of which came against the Gamecocks.

Polite approached double figure scoring with nine points and was a perfect six of six from the line. His single steal this afternoon was his 100th career steal.

Osborne, Mills, and RayQuan Evans had multiple steals with two apiece in contributing to the Seminoles' nine-steal team total. With a double-digit steals average (10.1 spg), Florida State leads the ACC in steals.

True freshmen Jalen Warley and John Butler contributed eight apiece on three of five shooting for each of them. Both also contributed a steal.

South Carolina's Carter led the team with 16 points, while Reese contributed 13 points on three of four shooting from the 3-point line.

Men's Basketball Defeats NC State 83-81.

by Kennedy Knisley

RALEIGH, N.C. - Redshirt senior Malik Osborne scored 12 of his 19 points in the second half and Florida State outscored NC State 16-14 in the final five minutes to take an 83-81 win over NC State at the PNC Arena. Sophomore Cam'Ron Fletcher scored a career-high 14 points while pulling down a career-high six rebounds. Fletcher and freshman Matthew Cleveland made big plays in the final minutes of the game to help the Seminoles to their first ACC road win of the season.

Cleveland earned his first career double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

The Seminoles survived a 32-point performance by Dereon Seabron to gain the win. Florida State was playing its first game in 17 days, its longest in-season layoff since the 1955-56 season. After defeating Lipscomb 97-60 on Dec. 15 the Seminoles had their next three games either canceled or postponed.

Both teams shot over 50 percent. NC State made 12 3-pointers, six more than FSU. The Seminoles' bench outscored NC State's 35-9. FSU outrebounded the Wolfpack 37-29 and had five more off the offensive glass in a matchup of the top two offensive rebounding teams in the ACC.

Neither team led by more than seven points and there were 14 lead changes.

The Seminoles took a 79-75 lead on two made free throws by Osborne with 54 seconds left to play. NC State's Terquavion Smith hit a 3-pointer to cut FSU's lead to 79-78. Florida State's Cleveland was fouled after an offensive rebound and made one of two free throws to put the Seminoles up 80-78 with 11 seconds left to be played.

NC State then called timeout with 8.4 seconds remaining. Immediately following the timeout by the Wolfpack, Fletcher stole the inbounds pass meant for Seabron and was fouled. He made the first free throw and missed the second but NC State's Jericole Hellems was called for a foul going for the rebound and Cleveland sank two more free throws to put the Seminoles up by an 83-78 margin.

Smith hit his seventh 3-pointer as the game ended to close the final gap.

Osborne has now scored in double figures in nine of the Seminoles' 11 games and averages a career-high 12.5 points. He has scored in double figures in 32 career games.

Redshirt sophomore Caleb Mills and Cleveland scored 13 points apiece. Cleveland led the team in rebounds with 10, earning his first career double-double. The freshman shot five of 10 from the field and three of five from the line.

Mills has scored in double figures in five of the last six games and is averaging 12.3 points scored per game.

After a slow start, the Seminoles led 43-41 at the half. Florida State has led at the half in 10 out of their 11 games this season.

Sophomore Naheem McLeod scored a career-high tying six points on three of three shooting all in the first half.

Seven Seminoles scored at least six points this game (RayQuan Evans, Anthony Polite, Mills, Osborne, Fletcher, McLeod, and Cleveland) and five Seminoles shot at least one triple (Polite, Mills, Osborne, Butler, Fletcher).

Florida State recorded nine steals against the Wolfpack and continues to lead the ACC with 10 steals per game.

Along with Seabron's 32 points and seven assists, Smith contributed 23 points for the Wolfpack.

Men's Basketball Defeats Louisville 79-70.

by Kennedy Knisley

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Redshirt sophomore Caleb Mills tied his career-high with 27 points to lead Florida State to a 79-70 victory over Louisville at the Donald L. Tucker Center. Florida State has now beaten Louisville in five straight games - its longest winning streak in the series that dates to 1968. The loss ended a three-game winning streak for the Cardinals.

Florida State has won 26 of its last 27 ACC home games since defeating Clemson on January 22, 2019.

Florida State freshman Matthew Cleveland, who entered averaging 9.9 points, finished with 17 points for the Seminoles. El Ellis scored 14 points to lead the Cardinals. Samuell Williamson added 13 points and Mason Faulkner 12 for the Cardinals.

Mills scored 23 first half points to help the Seminoles to a 50-40 lead at halftime. He averages 13.2 points scored per game and has scored in double figures in nine of Florida State's 13 games. He shot six of eight free throws and has made 52 of his last 58 career free throws (.900 percent).

Cleveland, the reigning ACC Freshman of the Week, is now averaging in double-figures with 10.5 points per game scoring average. He leads the ACC in scoring amongst all players who have not started a game this season.

Florida State started off strong in the first half and either led or were tied at each official timeout. Mills scored nearly half of Florida State's points with 23 in the first half, as the Seminoles went into the locker room up 50-40. The Seminoles' two turnovers in the first half marked the fewest turnovers in a half this season.

Florida State committed a season-low six turnovers in tonight's win over the Cardinals and forced 10 turnovers from Louisville.

Redshirt senior Anthony Polite neared a double-double with eight points and eight rebounds. He was a perfect four of four from the free throw line and is shooting .938 from the free throw line (15 of 16) in the last five games.

Polite contributed two of the Seminoles' five steals this evening. He is ranked fifth in the ACC for steals with a 1.8 steals per game average.

The Seminoles were up by just three (57-54) at the under eight-minute media timeout in the second half. That all changed after Cleveland made a shot clock beating shot from the 3-point line to put the Seminoles up 72-63 with 1:59 remaining in the game.

Five different Seminoles (Wyatt Wilkes, Mills, John Butler, Jalen Warley, and Cleveland), three of which are freshman, shot at least one three-pointer this evening.

Men's Basketball Beats Miami 65-64 at Home.

by Kennedy Knisley

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State's RayQuan Evans made two free throws with 0.8 seconds remaining to lift Florida State to a 65-64 win over ACC leading Miami at the Donald L. Tucker Center. Evans was fouled by Miami's Charlie Moore as he drove to the basket and made both free throws to give the Seminoles the win. Miami's last second attempt at a shot was taken after the final buzzer had sounded.

Florida State's victory marked its eighth consecutive win over the Hurricanes. The Seminoles have won each of the games played between the two teams since a 101-90 win over the Hurricanes on January 27, 2018. The Seminoles' win also snapped a nine-game winning streak for the Hurricanes, who entered the game with a perfect 5-0 record in ACC play.

The lead change hands three times in the final 27 seconds of the game.

Florida State's Malik Osborne hit a 3-pointer late in the shot clock to give FSU a 63-61 lead with 27 seconds left. Moore missed a driving layup on the other end, but Jordan Miller grabbed the offensive rebound off his own missed put-back attempt and kicked it out to Moore in the corner for a 3-point shot to give Miami a one-point lead with seven seconds to go. Evans was then fouled by Moore on a driving lay-up attempt and made the winning free throws.

Evans finished the game with 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. His two free throws to win the game were his first two free throws of the game.

Freshman Mathew Cleveland led Florida State with 15 points to mark his fourth consecutive double figure scoring effort. He is now averaging 10.8 points per game and is the ACC leader in scoring amongst all players who have not started a game this season.

In his 100th career game, Osborne scored seven points and pulled down eight rebounds. He is averaging a career-high 11.1 points and a career-high 7.3 rebounds. Osborne has scored in double figures in nine games and has pulled down seven or more rebounds in nine different games this season.

His 3-point shot with under 30 seconds remaining in the game was his first three of the game after two missed shots earlier in the game.

It was a game of rallies for the Seminoles who gained their third ACC win of the season.

Florida State rallied from an eight-point deficit at the under-twelve minute media timeout (15-7) and cut the Hurricane's lead to just one at the half at 29-28.

The second half was back and forth offensively and defensively on both ends as the Hurricanes maintained a lead through much of the half. Miami was up 61-58 with just 2:00 remaining in the game.

Redshirt senior Anthony Polite made two free throws and Osborne scored from long distance to put Florida State up 61-63 with 27 seconds remaining.

With a team eight steals, Florida State continues to lead the ACC in steals with a 9.9 steals per game average.

The Seminoles outscored the Hurricanes' bench by a 25-0 margin. Cam'Ron Fletcher, Naheem McLeod, Wyatt Wilkes, and Cleveland all contributed at least three points each off the bench.

Polite joined Evans and Cleveland in double figure scoring with 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Miami's Moore scored a team-high 20 points, while Kameron McGusty scored 17 for the Hurricanes.

Men's Basketball Defeats Duke 79-78 in OT.

by Kennedy Knisley

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - RayQuan Evans made two free throws with 12 seconds remaining and John Butler blocked a jump shot by Wendell More, Jr., with two seconds remaining, and Florida State won its NCAA record 13th consecutive overtime decision with a 79-78 win over No. 5 Duke at the Donald L. Tucker Center.

Caleb Mills led the Seminoles with 18 points, while Butler added a career-high 14.

The Seminoles outscored the Blue Devils by a 12-11 margin in the overtime period to win their 13th consecutive overtime game. The Seminoles' overtime winning streak dates back to a 101-90 double overtime win over Syracuse on January 13, 2018. Florida State has defeated 11 different teams during the overtime streak with its win over Duke marking its first over the Blue Devils during the streak.

The win was Florida State head coach Leonard Hamilton's eighth all-time win over Duke. The win was also the Seminoles' first over a top-5 ranked team since a 69-69 win over Virginia on March 15, 2019 in the semifinals of the AC Tournament.

Florida State gained its first win over a nationally ranked opponent this season and snapped a five-game losing streak to the Blue Devils.

The Seminoles started the second half in a 38-33 hole at half but turned it around at the under 16-minute media timeout to lead by a 44-341 margin.

Sophomore Naheem McLeod started for the second time in his season and finished with a near a double-double with a career-high nine points and 10 rebounds.

However, it was Mills and Butler who led the way for the Seminoles. Mills contributed 18 points, two blocks, and two steals, while Butler had a career-high 14 points and blocked two shots for Florida State. Mills made two triples and was a perfect six of six from the free throw line.

The Seminoles were up 63-58 at the under four-minute media timeout in the second half, but Duke's Mark Williams scored four points in 1:28 to put the Blue Devils up 67-65. Evans made a layup with one second remaining in regulation, and Mills stole the ball back as the clock expired.

Mills opened up the extra period with a three-point shot. He scored eight of Florida State's 12 points in the overtime period.

Duke was up by one after two made free throws from Paolo Banchero, but Evans was fouled with 12 seconds remaining to put the Seminoles up for good.

Florida State had a season-low five turnovers and outrebounded Duke by a 42-37 margin. The Seminoles' bench also gained the upper hand this evening with 23 points compared to Duke's 13 points. Freshman Matthew Cleveland led Florida State's bench with eight points and six rebounds. He is the ACC leader in scoring (10.5 ppg) amongst all players who have not started a game this season.

With nine steals for Florida State in comparison to just two steals from Duke, the Seminoles continue to be the top ranked team in the ACC for steals with 154 steals and a 9.6 steals per game average. The Seminoles lead the ACC in both total steals and steals per game.

Duke's Banchero led the Blue Devils in all three major categories with 20 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists.

Men's Basketball Defeats Miami 61-60.

by Kennedy Knisley

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Caleb Mills scored a team-high 16 points while Anthony Polite scored 15 for Florida State and the Seminoles moved into a tie for first place in the ACC with a 61-60 win over Miami at the Watsco Center. The win gave Florida State a two-game regular season sweep of the Hurricanes for the fourth consecutive season.

The Seminoles have won nine straight games against the Hurricanes, including both ends of the series in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.

The Seminoles' victory also marks Florida State's sixth straight win and fifth straight ACC win. The streak began with a 79-70 victory over Louisville on January 8.

In a near mirror-image contest, Florida State led 43-19 at halftime before the Hurricanes turned it around and outscored the Seminoles 41-18 in the second half.

In a game without any lead changes, the Seminoles gained their second consecutive one-point win over Miami. In the first meeting between the two teams, Florida State's RayQuan Evans made two free throws with 0.8 seconds left to play to give the Seminoles a 65-64 win. In Florida State's second win, Hurricane guard Isaiah Wong, who scored 18 of his game-high 22 points in the second half, missed a fadeaway jump shot at the buzzer that would have given Miami the win in front 7,972 fans.

Florida State scored the first basket of Saturday's game on a 3-point shot by Evans for a quick 3-0 advantage. The Seminoles never trailed, and the game was never tied from that point on.

The Seminoles had a dominant first half with several scoring runs culminated by a buzzer beating three-point shot from Wyatt Wilkes. Florida State was up 43-19 at the half.

Polite scored 13 of his points in the first half and was shooting a perfect five of five from the field in the first 20 minutes.

However, the second half was challenging for the Seminoles.

After a 12-0 run from the Hurricanes and a 4:35 scoring drought from Florida State, Miami cut the lead to just nine at 61-52 at the four-minute media timeout.

Miami closed the game with an 8-0 scoring run and outscored the Florida State by a 41-18 margin in the second half.

Malik Osborne had four points and a team-high eight rebounds, while both Polite and Matthew Cleveland pulled down seven rebounds apiece. The Seminoles outrebounded the Hurricanes by a 39-27 margin.

Mills, who shot seven of nine from the field (.778 percent) and had two blocks, is Florida State's leader in scoring (13.9 ppg), assists (2.8 apg) and steals (1.8 spg).

With two steals apiece for Jalen Warley, Osborne, and Wilkes, Florida State maintained its status as the ACC leaders in steals with a total of eight in comparison to Miami's seven. The Seminoles have 172 steals for an average of 9.6 steals per game.

Miami's Wong contributed a team-high 22 points, including three triples, while Charlie Moore and Kameron McGusty had 12 points apiece.

Men's Basketball Falls To Georgia Tech On The Road, 75-61.

by Kennedy Knisley

ATLANTA, Ga. - Anthony Polite scored 11 points and Naheem McLeod totaled a career-high 10 points as Florida State lost to Georgia Tech, 75-61, at McCamish Pavilion. The loss stopped a season-high six-game winning streak - including five consecutive wins in ACC play - for the Seminoles.

Florida State committed 17 turnovers and had five steals, as the Yellow Jackets were able to capitalize, leading the game for just over 25 of the 40 minutes played.

The Seminoles led for a majority of the first half until the under four-minute media timeout in which Georgia Tech led by three, 33-30. The Yellow Jackets closed the first half on a 19-7 run to take command of the game.

Florida State was down 53-42 at the under 12-minute media timeout in the second half but had an 8-0 run to close its deficit to 57-53. However, that was not enough for the Seminoles, as the Yellow Jackets responded late to secure the win.

Polite shot four of eight from the field (.500 percent) and contributed three triples. He also had a single block and a single steal. In the last three games, Polite is averaging 11.7 points (35 total points scored), shooting .583 from the field (14 of 24), and is shooting .667 from the 3-point line (six of nine).

McLeod, who has started in each of Florida State's last five games, pulled down seven rebounds, tying his career high. He shot four of six from the field (.667 percent) and two of three from the free throw line (.667 percent).

Led by freshman Jalen Warley with six points, the Seminoles' bench outscored Georgia Tech's bench by a 21-16 point margin. Warley shot .500 percent from the field, had four rebounds, and three assists this evening. The freshman is averaging 1.9 assists in the first 19 games of his Florida State career.

The Seminoles shot .410 percent from the field and .410 percent from the 3-point line, which was not enough in comparison to Georgia Tech's .440 percent shooting from the field. Florida State outrebounded the Yellow Jackets by a 38-31 margin.

Georgia Tech's Jordan Usher scored a team-high 19 points and totaled eight rebounds, while Michael Devoe contributed 15 points and five total rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.

Men's Basketball Falls To Virginia Tech, 85-72.

by Kennedy Knisley

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Naheem McLeod scored a career-high 15 points, shooting a perfect seven of seven from the field, but the Seminoles fell to the incredible hot shooting Hokies of Virginia Tech, 85-72, at the Donald L. Tucker Center. Playing without three starters for the majority of the game, the Seminoles could not match Virginia Tech's 18 3-point field goals made and .720 shooting percentage from the three-point line.

Anthony Polite led the Seminoles in scoring with 17 points and six rebounds. He was five of eight from the field (.625 percent) and two of four from beyond the arc (.500 percent). Polite's second 3-points shot of the game in the second half gave him 100 for his career and allowed him to become the 24th player in school history with at least 100 three-point field goals.

The Seminoles started the game off slow, but went into the locker room at halftime only down 39-31.

A McLeod dunk at the 11:55 mark of the second half put Florida State ahead, 54-53. That lead proved to be their final lead of the game.

In his last six games, McLeod is averaging 6.7 points per game (40 total points) and 3.2 rebounds per game (19 total rebounds). He is shooting .692 from the field (18 of 26). He also made his only free throw attempt of the games.

With the score at 62-60 with 7:25 remaining, Virginia Tech went on a 14-0 run that was finished off by Cattoor's 3-point shot, to increase its lead to 76-60 with 4:39 remaining. Virginia Tech shot well from 3-point range in the second half, hitting nine shots to score 27 of its 46 points.

Freshman Jalen Warley scored seven points and had a career-high four steals. Warley also contributed a career-high six assists.

In contributing 10 points against the Hokies in his first career start, freshman Matthew Cleveland is averaging a near double double of 10.0 points and 7.3 rebounds in Florida State's last four games.

Florida State had seven steals, with Polite contributing three and Warley contributing four. The Seminoles outrebounded Virginia Tech by a 25-18 margin.

Virginia Tech's Hunter Cattoor had an outstanding performance, shooting nine of 11 from the three-point line in contributing 27 points. Sean Pedulla also scored in double figures with 20 points for the Hokies.

Cattoor's nine 3-point shots made tied Justin Robinson's single-game school record that was set on January 26, 2019. The 18 3-point shots set a new single-game ACC record for the Hokies.

Men's Basketball Defeats Clemson 81-80.

by Kennedy Knisley

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - RayQuan Evans shot the game-winning free throw with 14 seconds left in leading the Seminoles to an 81-80 win over Clemson at home this evening. Evans scored a career-high 28 points and the Seminoles snapped their six-game losing streak.

Florida State was down 78-74 with 1:19 remaining when Nick Honor was called for his fourth foul of the game for Clemson. Evans made both free throws to cut the Seminoles' deficit to two, at 78-76. Clemson's PJ Hall was fouled and made bot of his free throws to put the Tigers up by four points at 80-76.

Florida State then scored five consecutive unanswered points to win the game and gain their nation's-leading fifth one-point win of the season.

After another set of made free throws by Evans, Florida State was down by two at 80-78 with 0:52 remaining.

Evans tied the game on a jumper, and was fouled by Honor and marched back to the line with 0:14 to go. His shot from the line was good and the Seminoles gained the win.

Clemson's Alex Hemingway missed a contested look at a potential game-winning corner 3 that bounced off the back of the iron as time expired. Clemson has lost five games in a row.

Evans shot seven of 13 from the field (.538 percent) and 12 of 13 from the line (.923 percent). The redshirt senior has scored in double figures six times this season and averages 8.3 points per game. He is shooting .921 from the free throw line (35 of 38) in his last 15 games, dating to December 12 against South Carolina.

Evans has scored the winning points in three games this season. The senior hit two free throws with 0.8 seconds left to lift the Seminoles to a 65-64 win over Miami on Jan. 11 and made a layup with 2 seconds left in regulation to make it 67-67 and force overtime before he hit two free throws with 12 seconds left in OT that gave FSU a 79-78 victory over then-No. 5 Duke on Jan. 18.

Cam'Ron Fletcher scored a career-high 17 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Fletcher has scored in double figures in seven different games this season with 14 or more points coming in ACC play against NC State (14 points on January 1), North Carolina (16 points on February 12) and Clemson (17 points on February 15).

The Seminoles shot .421 from beyond the arc with at least one three-point shot from five different Seminoles (Evans with two, John Butler with one, Wyatt Wilkes with two, Justin Lindner with one, and Fletcher with two).

Both Butler and Tanor Ngom had three blocks apiece and Evans and Fletcher contributed two steals each.

Clemson's PJ Hall scored a team-high 28 points and Al-Amir Dawes had 18 points for the Tigers. Clemson shot .222 percent from the three-point line and .386 from the field.

Men's Basketball Defeats Notre Dame 74-70.

by Kennedy Knisley

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Freshman John Butler scored a career-high 16 points and pulled down a career-high eight rebounds as the Seminoles defeated Notre Dame 74-70 at the Donald L. Tucker Center. RayQuan Evans made two free throws with nine seconds remaining to seal the victory for the Seminoles.

Florida State's victory marks its sixth consecutive home win against the Fighting Irish. The Seminoles have not lost a game to Notre Dame in Tallahassee in the history of the series.

The Seminoles were without ACC Freshman of the Week and second-leading scorer Matthew Cleveland, who was sidelined by a non-COVID illness. Cleveland had a last-second 3-pointer to beat Virginia 64-63 in FSU's previous game. FSU did get Polite back after he missed the last seven games following surgery for a fractured wrist, and he came through with a 3-pointer for a five-point lead with 46.8 seconds left.

Four Seminoles scored in double figures, including Evans (12 points), Polite (12 points), and Tanor Ngom (12 points).

Florida State led for 27 minutes of the game, but was down 44-39 going into the locker room at half.

Six different Seminoles scored at least one three-pointer (Butler, 4; Evans, two; Polite, two; Wyatt Wilkes, two; Harrison Prieto, one and Cam'Ron Fletcher, one) as Florida State made 12 3-pointers and shot a combined .414 percent from beyond the arc.

In making 12 of 29 from the arc, Florida State matched its highest total in an ACC game this season. Notre Dame missed all 10 of its second-half 3-point tries.

Warley had four assists in the win as he continues to be Florida State's leader in assists with 74 and a 2.6 assists per game average. Butler totaled a career-high four blocks and leads the team with 31 total blocks this season. Butler is looking to become the second freshman in the last three seasons to lead Florida State in blocked shots.

The Seminoles totaled eight blocks and seven steals, with Evans and Warley contributing two steals each, and Wilkes blocking two shots. Florida State is second in the ACC with an 8.7 steals per game average.

Notre Dame, the leading three-point field goals made team in the ACC, shot a below average it made just five of 19 from beyond the arc (.263 percent). Blake Wesley led Notre Dame with 21 points, while Paul Atkinson, Jr. had a double double of 17 points and 10 rebounds.
